creating a "world record" line to overlay on video

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone knows how to create an imaginary line which overlays the running of a race?

For example: If a runner was running a 200 metre race. I want to be able to see when he/she crosses 150 metres, 100 metres, 50 metres, 0. You would probably have seen it on TV during the olympics

S9 - Audio waveform not showing

Started a new project with audio & video. For some reason, the audio tracks are not showing the waveform. Even when I go to clip properties, there is no waveform shown. All of the music (MP3) plays. I can't find any sort of setting to enable/disable the waveform. When I exit Studio, and relaunch, I see a bit of the waveform for the first song, but only untill I click on it. After that I get either blue background (when selected), or white background (when not selected).

This seems to work sometimes when I open another project, but even there, it sometimes does not appear.

edit m2ts file results in frame freeze

I have a Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder. I use it's software, Picture Motion Browser, to download m2ts files to my pc. So - I'm not using the capturing process of Pinacle and instead am trying to directly edit the files download from the camcorder through Picture Motion Browser on my hard drive.

These files will not play in the editor. The first few frames start and then freeze up with the sound continuing. I can't tell what's on the files to be able to edit them. I can convert the m2ts files to avi or mpeg-4 and they can play, but that takes a long, long, time and I'm hoping is not necessary. If this is the only route possible to edit these, any recommendations on what file to convert them too without losing quality? I plan to burn HD DVDs and/or blue ray disc.

Software: Pinnacle Studio Plus 11.1

System: Windows Vista 32-bit, Intel Pentium dual core 64-bit processor (2.8 GHz), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, 1 G RAM.

Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14 Collection: Preview Video Window Jitters ALL the time. Help!

I just got Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14 Collection yesterday, and installed it today.

Installation went well, all plugins are ok.

Activated the following:

MP3
DivX
MPEG-4/DivX
H.264
Dolby Digital 5.1 Channel

But I don't see H.264 as an option anywhere.

But main problem is, when using my HD Canon HF S10 Camcorder, that saves the file extensions as .mts, when imported, which it does so just fine. When playing back before adding to the time line, i see my self looking like I'm having an epileptic fit - It jitters really fast back and forth.

I figured that it was because I hadn't added it to the time line, but was confused why the example samples were not doing this, but even still, added the video into the timeline and the same thing.

Hmm, so I figured this time, I'll save the project... and play back the preview... firs time round, great, no more jittering appeared... BUT then, I thought too soon, when playing it back a second time the jittering starts again.

I have searched this forum high and low for the past four hours and haven't found any solutions and some threads remained unanswered. :(

I've gone through most of the tutorials on how to do things, but, again, no avail to resolve this ongoing problem.

I'm using Vista 64bit, I have 4GB of RAM, and 2x 1GB Nvida Graphics / Video cards.

Can anyone help pls "WHO HAS" experienced this problem and found a solution?

Admin? Moderators? Existing Customers?

Will appreciate any help to solve this.

Quicktime formats that Studio 14 can import/edit?

I am going to be receiving some video to edit that can be sent in any of these quicktime formats:

   Data Rate Hard Drive space
  High Definition Quicktime Motion JPEG-A       ~ 100 Mb/s       50GB per hour

High Definition Quicktime Component video    ~  651 Mb/s        290GB per hour.

High Definition Quicktime Animation    ~ 835 Mb/s      370GB per hour

High Definition Quicktime RAW ~ 976 Mb/s 440GB per hour

I downloaded samples of all four and Studio 14 would only open the RAW format file. However, this file was only about half a second in length timewise and I would think that Studio would die on my computer if I tried to open a 200gb file for 30 mins of video (wish I had the computer that could do that).

Is there a way to edit these other formats directly, or am I better off finding some tool to convert them into something a little more friendly?

How can I overlay a lap timer or stopwatch to my video

I would like to add a stopwatch / lap timer to the video of my daughters track athletics. So far all I have been able to do is manually calculate the time from the frame count of the video and overlaying the text on the video. Hopefully there will be a much better solution that this.

deleted my render directories and pictures in my project are flickering/blinking

I deleted my render directories, and also directories of older versions of my project so make a lot of room of my hard drive. Now I see that the pictures in my project are flickering/blinking. Is there any relation to the deleting of the render directories? How can I stop the flickering?

S14UC Issue: AVCHD Editing

I've found a problem when viewing AVCHD files in the edit window. The films break up with quite a bit of pixelation, but if the same film is played in Studio 12 the film plays fine.

I have not as yet had a chance to test building and creating an AVCHD project in S14UC to see if the final rendered film suffers from the same problem.

I understood (from the forum) that the AVCHD codec had been improved for S14.

Currently any editing of AVCHD, which is all my films these days, will have to be carried out in S12 until this is corrected.

How to edit a combined B&W and color VCR video

I recently purchased Pinnacle 14 and have captured a VCR tape that was made from 8mm film. The film is from the early 50's and starts out with B&W pictures that are very over exposed, later the pictues taken are

in color, again they have alot of camera movement and need exposure adjustments. Needless to say but detected scenes are very interlaced.

So my question is what is a good plan to adjust and correct this one hour of video that I now have on the hard disk?

This is my first project and my thoughts are this:

1. For each of the 260 scenes detected do in order - white balance, auto color correction, and color correction.

2. At the completion of step 1, select all scenes and do in order - noise reduction, stablize and sharpen.

I'm looking for comments as to whether or not this is a good plan or if improvement can be made,

Black Border Around Picture

I am using Studio 11 (Vista Version) and running Vista 32-bit. I began a new Project and have somehow ended up with a black border (like a picture frame) around all of my pictures in the video. I have checked my settings and can not find anything that I have done wrong - this is the first time that this has happened. Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong? Thanks.

RTFx Speed on video show at 60 FPS

Just shot some HD video with a Canon 7D at 60 fps. I wanted to slow the motion down even more so I invoked the RTFx Speed control. After applying the effect, the full clip does not play out. It's like Pinnicale Studio 14 Ultimate Collection just kept the original total length of the video, and cut the rest. Could this be true? Please tell me I'm missing something.

How can I capture MPEG movies from a Memory Stick Duo card?

I am using Studio 8.12 with Windows XP (SP2). I have successfully captured DV video from the tape of a Sony DCR-PC1000 NTSC camcorder and the captured scenes are stored on my hard disk. My Sony camcorder can also produce low resolution (320 x 240) MPEG movies that are stored on a Memory Stick Duo card. My question is: How can I capture MPEG movies from a Memory Stick Duo card? The following process seems to do the job, but Studio 8 will not accept the file it produces. Here is the background information.

There is no way to use Studio 8 to control camcorder playback from a Memory Stick. Therefore, I manually operated the camcorder to play each MPEG scene as a separate full quality capture. I discovered that there is a time delay between when the Start Capture button is pressed and when the capture actually begins. Therefore, I have to (1) select the MPEG clip (in the camcorder) so that the camcorder output is the first frame of the clip, (2) press the start capture button, (3) wait 30 seconds and (4) manually start the movie playback on the camcorder. When the movie playback is complete, the camcorder automatically stops the playback but the first frame of the clip continues to be captured to successive frames. Then I must (5) stop the capture. The result is an mpg file that is stored on my hard disk. And that file plays successfully on Real Player, Nero, etc. However, the lead frames for each file contain the image of its icon. That is followed by the movie scene I wanted to capture and that is followed by trailing frames of the icon again. I will need to use Studio 8 to remove (clip) the leading and trailing frames of this file.

The captured file plays successfully on Real Player, Nero, etc. I have tried to open that file in the Studio 8 Album by using the folder button at top left of the Album panel. This produces a diagnostic that says: “Error opening video file; Pinnacle Studio is not enabled for PAL”.

What does this diagnostic mean or imply? Why would the system think this is a PAL format? The camcorder uses the NTSC format. How can I get Studio 8 to accept the capture file?

Menu problems with Pinnacle 14

My first project with Pinnable 14 after having upgraded (been using Pinnacle through a number of releases now).

What follows may sound a little complicated so I have a picture to help. From left to right...

A lead in snippet of film before Menu 1.
Menu one has a number of links, C5 of which links to the next peice of film which runs into Menu 2.
Menu two has a link (C2) which links to the next peice of film which runs into Menu 3, ... etc, etc - you get the idea.

This works fine when run in DVD Preview - works exactly as I want it - when I put DVD Preview into full screen it stops playing as soon as it hits a menu. When rendered, it will play the lead in and Menu 1, and when C5 is clicked it will play the next portion of film but instead of then showing Menu 2 it will go back to Menu 1.

I have tried this two other ways - first by adding "returns" to the menu that should come next, as the next picture shows. This had exactly the same behaviour. Worked as I wanted it to in the DVD Preview, but when rendered behaved exactly as above.

Then I tried putting all the menus together and the pieces of film after them - again no difference in the final rendered DVD.

Multiple menus like this worked in previous versions of Pinnacle, so I am at a loss to know how to get them to work with Pinnacle 14.

Does anyone have any ideas for me? Any other arrangements that I can try that might work where the above fails?

No visible 50 fps export with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Collection

Hello there,

I got a Samsung VP-HMX10 C Camcorder, making movies in 720p50p. At the general video settings of Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Collection, there is only 25P,30P,50i and 60i to set. So well, when I want to export the H.264 original files to MPEG 4 for example, it offers me a manual frameset of 50fps. Seems not to work. In the end, it is not real 50 fps when I watch the movie. Even a blind can see that. When I set the output video on half speed, it is even more visible, especially when comparing it with the original 50 fps file.

I have tried to export my Samsung H.264 50p videos with Sony Vegas 9 AND also Magic Video Deluxe 15 (on a friends pc) and, surprise, it both worked with 50p. So what can I do ? Or does Pinnacle not support 50p output ?

Maybe I forgot to configure something necessary for getting (keeping it ) a 50p video.
Could someone tell me the settings to get that then ?

Color correction and matching

Is there some advice on color matching and correction that you can point me to? I am especially having a hard time getting correct skin tones. For still shots I use Photoshop Elements 6.0 which has color correction tools that work very well. I can't find anything in Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 14 that I can get to work as well. I am mainly using the white balance with a lot of trial and error. I am working with older home videos shot inside under incandescent light.

I searched, but everything I found was about Liquid.

This pertains to Studio 12 Ultimate. After importing a video and editing it, I imported another video and did and edit on it. Now I want to attach the two edited videos together, but the program doesn't allow it. I can't open the last edited video in the window which enables me to bring it down to the video line. Does anyone know of a method to connect the two edited videos together?

MPG file problem

Hi Folks

Help Please.

I have been using Ultimate v12 for a year to make my family DVD's.

Suddenly, I have a problem, that a purchased MPG File downloaded to "My Videos" from a third party site - will not open in Pinnacle.

The icon on the video file is a blue question mark. It plays OK in Windows Media Player no problem.

I then have to use AVS VIDEO CONVERTER 6.2 to convert the file to an AVI file. That then opens in Pinnacle and I can produce my DVD.

I have tried to use the above conversion program to convert the downloaded file from MPG to MPEG, but it makes no difference, the file is still not recognised by Pinnacle.

I have to convert to AVI.

On making the DVD it converts the program files to MPEG - all OK.

Question and help please - Why is this suddenly happening ??

Why is the downloaded file not recognised by Pinnacle ??

How can I overcome this annoying rather than a problem issue of double conversion ??

Help Please.

S14 Blue Question Mark Appears When Using Menus On Timeline

I have used every version of Studio since Studio 400 days. My frustration in sorting this problem out has led me to discover the world of Pinnacle forums. Now to the problem. Whenever I try to use a menu regardless of it being a motion or still menu the behaviour is quite complexing. I drag the menu to the timeline (ahead of only one video file which is approx 7 mins in duration) I set chapter points manually then OK the menu editor only to find the menu now shows on the timeline with a blue question mark. I tried the same process with S12 and again I get the same behaviour. Next step lets see if this happens with S10 great no probs in S10 the menu behaves the way it should and progresses through make movie and render process no problems. When I try to make movie with S12 & S14 with the same menu used in S10 an export error render message appears and it will not complete the process. Next step, sort through the Pinnacle support knowledge area and then onto the forums. Have looked at all posts and tried different suggestions including: deleting auxillary files, enabling background render and so on. So now my question reaches its Pinnacle! Simply put anyone got any other suggestions on what I can try?

Anyone have a list of the transitions?

Does anyone know or has a print out list of where exactly the transitions are in the different options. I keep forgetting where I found a particular transition and have to preview each one to find it. I know that the normal ones such as fade etc are in the first folder but the many others are not easy to locate if you don't remember where you found them in the first place. I am having to re-make a project as I have had troubles with export error and am working from a print out of the text timeline so hoping to be able to speed things up a bit. "Previous Chapter" button on a single chapter?

I have a slideshow that comprises 1 chapter. so I've got 1 menu and the 1 menu button is linked to a single chapter (the whole slideshow). There is a "C1" in the beginning and an "M1" at the end.

Upon burning the DVD, everything works just fine in terms of navigating between the menu and the chapter, and back, etc. BUT I noticed in all the DVD players I've played the DVD in, while watching the show, I would expect that hitting the "previous chapter" button would essentially restart the show from the beginning of the chapter - but it doesn't. Once the show starts, my only choices are to fast-foward or rewind (both at normal various speeds) - or go back to the menu if I hit menu. But I can't restart the chapter by hitting "previous chapter".

Am I missing something?

Maybe I'm thinking of a CD player, where if you hit previous chapter/song once, it goes back to the beginning of the song, and if you hit again quickly, it goes back to the beginning of the previous song, etc... but still I thought it worked the same way with a video DVD... maybe with only 1 chapter, it thinks there isn't a "previous" chapter...?

Disc ? hangs any suggestion

I have a problem which I cannot explain, anyone has any input on this ?

I edit in studio (12.1.3) (which I have done many times on this machine with no problems) and suddenly studio hangs the machine. The hang is very "hard" disk lamp on 100% nothing (not even CNTRL/ALT/DEL) breaks through. It lasts for several minutes and then suddenly the machine is released. The only action in Studio I can relate it to is using the menu track it seems to come when I put something there.

I think I have tried everything but if someone has a suggestion I will happily listen

I have tried:

running Studio repair install

Running studio in safe mood (works fine but no change)

starting wih all startups disabled (MSconfig)
