I'll probably conclude that this has been resolved.
thanks for getting back. to be clear: if the motherboard has a 1394 port, and I connect my d camcorder to it, does pinnacle need its own (pci) capture card to capture SD content? more research has revealed to me that a 1394 a port is 6 pin 1394. what pin wd a sony d8 that I have, have?

will pinnacle recognize and be able to capture from it?

Yes.

what pin wd a sony d8 that I have, have?

If you can Capture DV from a Sony Digital Hi 8 Cam? It would have a 4 pin Firewire Conector on Cam. You would need a Firewire Cable with a 4 Pin connector at one end (For Cam) & a 6 Pin connector at the other end, (for PC).

ADDED - Apologies for misplaced quote - Forum is doing some bizzare things recently.

Re: can studio capture from a motherboard's 1394 port?

thanks for getting back. to be clear: if the motherboard has a 1394 port, and I connect my d camcorder to it, will pinnacle recognize and be able to capture from it?

more research has revealed to me that a 1394 a port is 6 pin 1394. what pin wd a sony d8 that I have, have?

Re: can studio capture from a motherboard's 1394 port?

idicmike:

or does pinnacle need its own (pci) capture card to capture SD content? also, what is a 1394 a port?

what is a 1394 a port?

1394

does pinnacle need its own (pci) capture card to capture SD content?

No - Any Generc "Firewire" Capture Card will do.

can studio capture from a motherboard's 1394 port?

or does pinnacle need its own (pci) capture card to capture SD content? also, what is a 1394 a port?
