Getting higher quality video transfer - best.txt

I know that this has appeared a few times in this forum however many of the links are not working and I know other people apart from myself would like to know the answer.

1. How can you improve the best quality video. I understand that you can create a text file called best.txt and place it into the video folder (on say your removable hard disk drive). However what needs to go into that best.txt file.

2. Can you improve the quality any further?

3. Can you change the settings such as Mbps or file size?

4. Any other tips?

Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 compatibility issues?

I have used PVT and successfully transfered most of my hi8 to digital. I play the newly created AVI files using WMP without issue and the quality is great. HOWEVER......when I use Sony Vegas to edit my AVI's, some are accepted and placed on the timeline, others are are not. I try to recapture the files that have the issue and that is a hit and miss. There seems to be no consistancy. I took my clips to a friends computer and used Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and it was able to take all the clips and edit them.

Why is that? Does anyone else have this issue?

I don't want to spend hundreds on Adobe, I already spent hundreds on Sony. I like how Sony works, and I am used to it. It has taken other formats of video without issue. Just has issues with what PVT spits out.

Video Quality Issues with PVT (PLEASE HELP!)

Ok, I have had my PVT for over a year now and I am having a problem but, I think I am on to fixing it. I have my PVT hooked up to my XBOX 360 VGA cables. I am running Y-splitter cables for the signal and I know this is good. I used to record straight to my recorder using Pinnicle Studio Dazzle Recorder but got the PVT for convenence. Now I am using a PNY 8GB Flash Stick to record onto. When I used the "old best setting" 1.5MBs every video was horrable quality under any movement and had heavy interlacing. I started using the "new best setting" 2.5MBs and the quality changed. At the start of the recording the picture is 100% clear and perfect. After about 10 seconds I get some interlacing but picture quality over all is good. The video will go in and out of visually displaying the interlacing comb and go back.

Now either two things hare happening that I can think of:

1) The PVT is junk and is screwed up.

2) The USB Flash Drive I am recording to is not good enough.

Now the PNY USB Flash Drive has a advertised write speed of 4.0MBs which should be fast enough. It got me thinking though of how other USB flash drives performed. I found tons of flash drives that had write speeds of 12MBs or more. Now I am starting to think the flash drive is dropping the quality of the video. What do you all think?

Does anything think that a faster write speed flash drive or a external hard drive would still display the speratic interlacing? I do not want to throw money on a new drive if the PVT is the problem.

Any advice or help is appreciated.

Pinnacle Marvin Bus Problem?

I don't have Dazzle's DVD Recorder anymore, returned because of a different recorder. But everytime I reboot my computer, it says Unknown Device needs to install. After looking up the Device Driver it told me Pinnacle Marvin Bus and it wasn't compatible with Windows Vista 32 bit. What do I do to get rid of it? I disabled that driver, I think, but you guys are the experts here.

hello I have a problem with audio in my recordings.

i use SanDisk micro cruzer 8GB as a disk. I have driver: Version 00.01.00.46.03 instaled from your site.

And sometimes (not always) after few minutes of recordings I have audio clipping in my files. See a small part of one of my recordings ( 4MB)

Hello i just bought the pinnacle video capture card for mac and was using it on a standard def platform. i just recently bought a hd tv. Is it possible for me to use this for a hd tv. if so what cable should i buy. My tv only has red green blue outputs.

Also i need to know how to make the videos to not save as mp4 and make them save as something else because i dont want to render

everything i capture in final cut pro.

PVT: stops recording fron an VCR

Hello,

I have recently acquired a Pinnacle Video Transfer device. It works as expected when transferring video signals from a Wii, from a digital TV tuner, etc, but when I try to transfer video from an old video tape the recording automatically stops sometimes. It stops always in the same points of the tape.

I have tried to record in normal mode and forced mode but the result is the same, the signal leds blinks for one second or so and them the recording stops automatically and they become blue. I know that the video and audio signal is not interrupted more than 10 seconds, maybe it is interrupted for a fraction of a second but not 10 seconds.

More information:

The firmware is updated to the last version.
The video system is PAL.
It happens independently of the USB device and quality of the record.
It happens both in normal and forced recording modes.

Is this a bug? Should it happen in forced mode? What can I do?

PVT is a great device but I bought it to transfer my old video tapes automatically and I cannot do it. Thank you.

Operating Pinnacle Video Transfer off battery

I'm interested in buying a video transfer to use it as a poor man's solid state video recorder with my Sony VX-2000 camcorder. What I'd like to do is construct a battery compartment, with a Sony Infolithium battery (if the voltage is compatible) that could power the Pinnacle device and the flash stick that's plugged into it.

Has anyone tried this before? How did you do it? What voltage does it take to power the device?

i just got a Dazzle and started recording some old vhs tapes.

i am having a problem i dont believe is necessarily the device, but am hoping for some guidance on how to fix.

imagine going to a movie and the projector is out of synch some, so the images kinda of show slightly off and the picture is not smooth.

i am getting that. the jvc vhs recorder/player i am using is supposed to auto-correct for that, but...

the tapes are several years old and have been in a closet, so i thought i would transfer to dvd before i couldnt buy a player anymore.

i tried fast forwarding and rewinding the tapes to see if the were just loose or stuck a bit (that used to work w/ the rental ones i would get sometimes) but not much luck cleaning things up. way back when i think i had a player that had a tweaker on it for that kind of behavior to speed up or slow down the playing a tiny bit, but this 1 doesnt.

any ideas on how to fix something like this. as it is the tapes are practically worthless. they're the old family movies and it really would be good to transfer them.

I have just bought a PVT and was wondering whether you can transfer to a portable harddrive which is formatted to NTFS or only Fat16 &32. If the latter, why these are old formats, as most these days seem to be formatted to NTFS and can these old formats run on Vista 64.

Hi all,

I just got Dazzle DVD recorder for the sole purpose of transferring 5 VHS tapes to DVD. The problem is that I don't know what format they were recorded in originally, ie; SP, EP, LP. I am guessing SP but don't know for sure. So what I am trying to do is burn it to my hard disc instead of direct to the DVD, so that way I can import it into Windows Movie Maker and can see how many minutes each tape was.

What is happening is that Instant DVD recorder keeps stopping after around 18 minutes and telling me my job is complete. know it's not done because the VCR is still playing. I have set the record time for 120 minutes. Any thoughts from the experts ?

Help Please-Connections issue

I have a MacBook and it does not have firewire 9 pin port:( I baught the pinnacle Dazzle for the Mac (white one) I did use this previously and worked fine. I am trying to use again and it is giving me an error "Pinnacle video capture could not be opened bacause there is no pinnacle dazzle connected" connect a Pinnacle Dazzle device" I have it connected and it is showing the green light on. I checked the disk utility and it shows that the pinnacle Dazzle is good. What is the problem. I don't know what to do.

Audio clicking/popping

First post here so hello to everyone. I am using a Dazzle DVC100 to do live encoding on a laptop. I am running XP and Windows Media Encoder. My drivers are 1.0.46, I think.

When we encode video and audio together there is a clicking or popping on the audio track, when I disconnect the video the popping doesn't occur. It doesn't seem to matter what the video picture is, and the clicking doesn't seem related to what's going on in the frame as it happens even with a static graphic.

If anyone has any ideas that would be great. We thought the Dazzle might be a great lightweight encoding solution, but not sure if it's going to be suitable now.

not sold on video transfer yet & viewing while coverting

seeing some of the problems that have been posted I am not sold on purchasing a PVTransfer unit yet, soley for vcr video tape covertion. Look like it will take quite a lot of experimentation in settings, but thats is expected. would like though to be able to see what is being transfered, can one run from the vcr our and then to both a tv and the pinnacle box so one can see what is being recorded to know when to turn it off? ex. say 4 one hour tv shows in a row and want separatte files, or do you just set it and watch the clock?

Hola gurus,

I want to transfer about 30 hours of home video to DVD, and edit it in the process. Nothing too fancy, add a few titles, clip out some extraneous video and tighten it up, then burn it to DVD for a Christmas gift.

I bought a Dazzle DVD Recorder on Amazon ($34.95 - woohoo!), and have an old Sharp Viewcam 8mm analog video camcorder as well as a nice little stack of 8mm videotapes from when the kids were small. The Dazzle only came with the Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder software - so I don't have the Pinnacle Studio.

I would imagine I have to copy the videotapes through the Dazzle to the hard disk of my PC. This I have tried with one tape using Instant DVD Recorder. However, I only get the VIDEO_TS folder and don't really know where to go from there.

What low co$t solution is there (I love free!)? I've taken a quick look at just bringing the video into Windows Movie Maker directly (which appears to work), but don't know what settings to use or how I am going to get this stuff back to DVD when I'm done editing it - so I don't want to travel too far down that road if it is a dead end.

Any and all help appreciated!

PVT blocked and every leds are staying blue

Hello ,

I am french user of PVT, so sorry for my bad english. Here is the problem: the PVT was working good during 1 month with the new firmware.

But now , when i start the engine , even without video cables ans usb drive, every leds are blue: the 3 leds of the mode, 2 leds of usb and 4 leds for the cables.

So i 'll be happy if someone has a solution of the prob.

Hello all -

I recently purchased the DVC-101 USB video capture device so I can record gameplay from my PS3, XBOX360 and Wii. I also want to stream via my dazzle to Justin.tv. My problem is my video quality is just terrible and I don't understand why. I have seen others use the same device or the DVC-100 and have better quality than me. Here is my setup:

360 to splitters then from splitters I go to the tv and dazzle box to PC. I know it's not the setup because even when I go directly to the dazzle box the quality is the same.

Are there any setting I can change to get better quality? Also I'm not using the yellow cable for video, I'm using the s-video cable. Tried both ways and S-video is better but not by that much.

Would the Studio MovieBox Ultimate give me better video quality?

So I recently bought a Pinnacle Studio Movie Box 11. I've been watching youtube videos and read other threads but none seem to help. I'm trying to hook it up to my 360 which I have with a/v splitters and so on, but still it doesn't show anything in the preview screen. It just keeps telling me "Valid Input signal has not been detected. Please check your cables". I don't know why when everything is hooked up properly. Sometimes I get stuff in the preview screen but its all crappy. It's like watching t.v. with an antenna. It only does this when I shut off my computer and turn it on the next day and connect the capture card to it. After I change the capture format it just gives me that message and nothing shows up on the preview screen. I also tried restarting my comp a few times but that didn't work either. It's like i have to leave it off for X amount of time for it to work. Someone please help me with my problem. Thanks.

Can't play pinnacle videos on my mp3 players

I haven't gotten my Pinnacle recorder to fully work. It records shows to my USB drive as an MP4 file, but I can't play the videos on my mp3 players. I have Insignia Pilot and Sansa View mp3 players and their manuals say they can play mpeg videos. But when I transfer it to the players they don't play the video and say the file type is not supported. Their user manuals say they support MPEG video. Is an MP4 file an MPEG file? Do you know why these mp3 players won't play the video? Are iPods the only mp3 players that can play pinnacle videos?

Do I really need Dazzle?

I need to work on some old video taken on 8mm video tapes. Do I really need to buy Dazzle? Can't I just convert the tapes through my old pass-through video camera into dvds on my dvd recorder and just import the dvd into Pinnacle 12? I realize it involves a few extra steps and some dvds, but what is the advantage of Dazzle? Is the quality of the capture file better?

Video not capturing at correct speed

Does anyone think they could help me with a problem im having.

I have set up my Xbox360 to my dazzle capture card and recorded, but when i play the video clip back the video has recorded faster than it should, this means that when the video is 15 seconds in, the audio is where it should be at the 10 second mark.

To put it simple, when i record it makes the video faster and un syncs my audio and video.

Here is the video that i have captured, this may help with a solution to the problem, it starts out fine then when it gets further into the video, the audio is a long time behind.

You can tell the the video is playing faster than it should be because you can see the timer in the bottom left of the screen on the recording.
