Thanks VERY MUCH to evangary who sent me original Studio 9 CD's to use for the Upgrade to Liquid 7 after having lost my originals.

I followed the onscreen instructions and used the S9 CD's when called for and the upgrade went off without incident.

Thanks to everyone else for their suggestions and time. Ultimately, I am not sure why the patch would not work.

In the end, I think that these software developers should abandon their Microsoftian approach to proprietary software and installation.

It just isn't a rational practice to retain software that is no longer made, supported, or used...but necessary to re-install an upgrade.

JMHO. ~Thanks again to everyone!~

Re: Upgrade to Liquid 7 from Studio 9 without original CD after Clean Vista Install

tduerr:

If this is a clean install of Vista, how is Studio 9 under Program Files?

That was my exact thought

Also, however that might have nothing to do with the licensing probs, there is nowhere in the install thread that it is said to run Liquid in XP compability mode.

edited... I think that this might be one other prob, are you really using the full install 7,2 file and not something else ?

setup on Liquid 7 (upgrade from Studio 9) was set to run in xp compatibility mode as was the patch that I downloaded from your post for "Manual install of Liquid in Vista...".

I run the setup for L7 and it requests the Studio 9 cd,

Re: Upgrade to Liquid 7 from Studio 9 without original CD after Clean Vista Install

If you still need a Studio 9 cd, I have one that you can have for free (the original, not a copy.)

I have followed all of the instructions to the letter. This is an absolute clean and updated install of Vista Buisiness Pro. I disabled internet, disabled firewall (KIS 2009), UAC was already disabled by me, setup on Liquid 7 (upgrade from Studio 9) was set to run in xp compatibility mode as was the patch that I downloaded from your post for "Manual install of Liquid in Vista...".

I run the setup for L7 and it requests the Studio 9 cd, I cancel the install, run the patch (which completes successfully), I then re-run the L7 install and it still asks for the Studio 9 cd.

I have all the old program files from my old system (not the install files but what was installed under Program Files). Studio 9 is there. Is it possible that it's looking for a specific file that I can drop on a cd and have it read that?

I have even registered that freakin software and still have the receipt, I just can't find the cd (that hasn't been used for 2 years). Pinnacle says they don't have it and I can't download it anywhere.

Am I just missing something? Thanks in advance.

Re: Upgrade to Liquid 7 from Studio 9 without original CD after Clean Vista Install

tduerr:

It must be Vista..

I upgraded Pinnacle Studio 9 to Avid Liquid 7 a couple of years ago and have since lost the original Pinnacle Studio 9 CD. When am installing Liquid 7, it asks for the original Pinnacle CD which I do not have. Pinnacle no longer supports Studio 9, doesn't make the CD's and doesn't have a location where it can be downloaded. I have the S9 software registered, all the old files that were installed in "Program files" but no registry information. How do I install an upgrade to software that I no longer have? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
