This video features a local 80s cover band, Live 80, at a recent holiday party. By
summer, it was determined that at the heart of my medical issues was
Celiac - where the body attacks itself in response to gluten (wheat). I
started on a gluten-free diet and began my 12-week Body-for-LIFE challenge on
August 24th, following the BFL fitness/weight-loss program and riding my bike like a mad man...

I created a music/progress video celebrating my big comeback with clips
from my bike rides and progress photos from my very successful
challenge (8/24/09 - 11/14/09). The song is "Turnaround". Pretty darn
fitting...

This link will play the video directly from YouTube.

Jim's First Gluten-Free Body-for-LIFE Challenge

Entry into video contest on Youtube

Made a video to promote the upcoming 2009 AKC/Eukanuba dog show. Pleae watch and comment here and on Youtube, thanks everyone!

Everyone has one you know. This little clip is part of a three and a half hour DVD made for an Itailian-American family attempting to preserve their stories, traditions, and values. All of the people in this are brothers and sisters and they wanted to pass this information (from when their parents came to this country in the 1920's) on to their children, grand-children, etc. I get to meet the nicest people doing this type of "work". Truthfully, it's not like work at all.

I did this with Virtualdub but did not tweak the settings before I uploaded it to youtube. I redid it and the rolling shutter effects are better, but this was a very shakey clip. I was holding the camera out of the drivers' side window on a tripod with the wind blowing it all around and it was bouncing up and down pretty good. So, given the original conditions I think it came out pretty good. It is virtually unwatchable in its original form.

Made with Studio 14 Ultimate Collection with no premium features on a 2.6Mhz Core 2 Duo with Windows XP SP3 and 2 Gigs of RAM

OK, Studio 14 crashed once or twice doing it but was able to reload without re-booting the machine, and saving it as a High Quality Upload .wmv then uploading it to YouTube made the audio go out of lip-synch.

Overall, I'm impressed with the quality of 14, having also owned previous versions of Studio.

I'm very happy to see the addition of 'export between markers' (not used it yet though)

I'd love to see the NAMES of clips above each clip on the timeline.

Enjoy,

I've been tweeking the effects on my pinnical 12 and figured out a few quick tips on here if anyone would like to know them.

Deleating the audio off of the video tracks: Is there audio on the two video tracks that you DON'T need? Simply muting these tracks affects the file size anyway, however I've figured out a little trick around this that should work with any version. Just 'lock' the video section of the track, then select the audio clips and not the video clips. Just deleat those and boom. you got an empty audio track you can use for narrative. Though that narrative has to be recorded in the program, you still have two empty audio tracks to use! (Sound effects and the music track)

Oh right, I guess I should put my first two episodes on display for ya, that's what this thread is about anyway xD please rate and comment if you like it. On youtube if you want to rate it.

Irv Polk has operated a program and ministry for 46 years for disadvantaged youth that gives them a place to learn and grow. He continues to be involved with the kids as much as he can.

Since these excerpts are from a 35 minute interview, my purpose is to tell a quick story in about 5 to 7 minutes. The DVD contains the long interview plus these clips. It may look like the video editing is very choppy and not done well... and that is fair. However, the excerpting required shortening some audio which means a video scene edit. I covered most of the really bad places with pictures, but the real intent was to capture the story in spite of the video prettiness. I also broke my rule about a "busy" background. The reason is that every office in their building has one of these "busy looking" bulletin boards and that characteristic needed to be captured. In my little videography niche it's all about the story... no matter what. Sound like an apology? Probably.

In the first clip you will learn a little about the Lifeline program that he started. I thought they may want to use it on their website.

In the second clip you will hear some of his wisdom gained over the years.

The interview and editing went together quickly and wasn't difficult technologically. But it was one of my harder projects.

When I committed to
doing the Tour De Poway 50-miler in August it seemed almost crazy at my weight to
attempt such a hilly ride that starts out with a 3-mile climb up an 8%
grade...I carried my Flip MinoHD camcorder with me and made my first Studio 14 video from the footage.

The main goal of the video was to capture the symbolic and real victory over chronic illness (pituitary failure, celiac, thyroid...).

I really liked the new motion title editor although I had a few crashes while using it. The project bin feature was great and made putting things together much easier and quicker, especially the often arduous task of deciding on the music. I liked the stabilize effect but was disappointed that you can't use it and the speed effect at the same time. I used the Shine effect to create a motion effect that worked well. And the new interface is really nice.

The 2009 Tour De Poway

Introduce the band

I offered to create a short composition for a band to use as they took the stage. I figured this would be a perfect opportunity to pad my musical portfolio and to see what I could produce using exclusively free sounds from freesound.org.

When the song was done, I figured I'd advertize myself a little bit by making it into a video.

I snagged some free images from freerangestock.com and told my story. A hall of mirrors effect and a slight pan and zoom gives the static images a frame and a little bit of life. A sepia tone and a slight bluring effect helps them not to detract from the text.

I played the song and captured the effects from Goldwave using CamStudio. Then I loaded them all into Pinnacle and re-synched the graphics with the sound. The two graphics are trimmed with the 2D advanced editor and laid on top of each other.

The result is this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVqhZ35-SOs

I think it turned out pretty cool. Some of us won what we refered to as the "Machu Picchu lottery" when the trains that bring people here was on strike the day that I visited. I had gone the night before so I could get there early in the morning before the trains brought the day tourists. Instead of thousands of vistors, there were only a few hundred spread out over the entire day. (There were periods when I didn't see anyone for long stretches of time. Imagine going to Disneyworld and only 200 people showed up that day!) The weather turned out to be perfect, too.

I also spent a good bit of time in the in the rainforest along the Amazon, too, but I haven't put that video together yet. As they say, stay tuned...

On Saturday, 9/5/2009, I headed to the coast (San Diego) to see if I could do 40
miles on the bike. I took my video camera on the bike so that I could
share my adventure with you on my quest to hit 40 miles for the first
time this year... Here's the YouTube link:

The quest for 40 miles...

Merry Christmas ??

Every year, just before Christmas, we make up lots of goodie bags
