Mind you, editing those wonderfully compressed HD files will still be slow (as opposed to SD files). Some have resorted to converting the AVCHD files to something more NLE friendly (HDV or Mpeg2) before editing. Another step in the process, but if you are not in a rush, this system will be fine.
Re: Pinnacle Studio 12 and ASUS RADEON HD3870 512Mb PCIE2.0/DDR4

tecinf:

Vista 64bit and 8GB Ram will do little to help run Studio12 seeing that it's a 32Bit App and will not use more than 3GB Ram.

If you friend is serious about video editing and can afford it, I would recommend Adobe Premiere CS4 or Vegas Pro both of which are true 64Bit apps and will use all the ram you give it.

Re: Pinnacle Studio 12 and ASUS RADEON HD3870 512Mb PCIE2.0/DDR4

Sorry - i've been away in a place without internet (at least without fast internet, only weak GPRS).

Anyway it was a type error: Instead of XEON HD3870 the CPU is a Intel Xeon 3380 QuadCore 3.16GHz FSB1333 12MB.

The user will be using other apps, one of them is very CPU-Intensive, so we decided to follow the software house advise.

Re: Pinnacle Studio 12 and ASUS RADEON HD3870 512Mb PCIE2.0/DDR4

fidel47:

Tecinf:

His PC is old (+4 years) so upgrade is not an option.

He asked me for a new PC, but i have some doubts if this configuration will be good for use with PS12 - in particular, the video card.

What he wants to do:

Edit his movies - both in analog and digital (right now he as one of the Sony cameras, with AVCHD (1920 x 1080, 1440 x 1080));

Create Blue Ray and DVDs so he can share his videos with friends and family;

Even if it will not use this for professional work, he is in fact a "prosumer" - he has very high requests.

This is what i will advise:

Vista 64, 8 GB, Xeon HD3870, ASUS RADEON HD3870 512Mb PCIE2.0/DDR4, 2 HD 1TB 32MB Cache;

What do you think about this setup (in particular the RADEON HD3870)?

Any input will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.
