YES! That is great news! I bought a new PC just so I could buy Studio 12. I loaded 12 and the update from scratch. Then I realized that Smarsound would not work and all work arounds were disabled. But I own 5 Smartsound discs. How will S12 support these? Will there be another patch to restore Smartsound back into S12?

4) If I click on any of these I get the following message ----
" Pinnacle Styudio Plus- could not load the audio plugin "Smartsound [whichever one it was I clicked]". Unspecified error"

3) On the Backgound Music subwindow, where the pulldown menu says Scorefitter, clicked the down arrow and I see -
         Smartsound Music (Owned)
         Smartsound Music (All)
         Smartsound SFX (Owned)
         Smartsound SFX (All)

As you already now have 3), in your Post showing , continue with 5) & ignore 6), in my Post..

Besides SmartSound Quicktracks you also need to install "SmartSound Pinnacle Music.exe" which can be found on disc 2 of Studio 10's set of installion discs.

Thank you very much colour - I really appreciate your reponse and express my gratitude - excellent instructions. I have a problem half way - I get stuck at 4) and dont know how to move on.

Here's what happened >>
1. Downloaded and installed the Smartsound Installer "Smartsound Quicktracks version 3.0.9.0."
1) Launched S12Plus
2) Clicked on the Audio Tool Box Icon >> Found the background music button, clicked that
3) On the Backgound Music subwindow, where the pulldown menu says Scorefitter, clicked the down arrow and I see -
         Smartsound Music (Owned)
         Smartsound Music (All)
         Smartsound SFX (Owned)
         Smartsound SFX (All)
(I dont know what Smartsound SFX is, but never mind ....)
4) If I click on any of these I get the following message ----

So HELP!
What do I do now please?

Summarising my system - I have a clean S12 Plus installation with the latest patch, on a new fairly clean machine XP SP3 with little else on it. I have orginal Studio7, 8 and 9 disks. (I didnt buy Studio 10 and 11). I dont have any previous versions of Studio on my machine (deliberately, because I am fearful of problems). I have 3 Smartsound CDs that I want to load up and I want Studio 12 to recognise them and use them. Ideally I seek simple step by step instructions with some (brief/helpful) explanation (if possible so I understand why) to make Smartsound CDs be recognised and useable within Studio12. Maybe a wise Pinnacle or Smartsound representative will respond; anybody's response is welcome.

I have never seen Studio refer to the terminology "Quicktracks" in any Studio Manual. I have no knowledge of Smartsound terminology or usage outside of Studio, (although it would appear that "Quicktracks" is what Smartsound calls its music tracks).

Smartsound "Quicktracks" was supplied with & included in the cost of the Studio Prog, but discontinued in S11 & replaced by Pinnacle's Scorefitter.

I have 3 Smartsound CDs that I want to load up and I want Studio 12 to recognise them and use them

If you Download & Install the SmartSound Installer 1st & then:

1) Launch S12

2) Click on the Audio Tool Box Icon

3) Click on the Music Tab, in following "Pop-Up"

4) Choose SmartSound in Source "Drop-Down" (If it's showing).

5) Insert your SmartSound Cds consecutively & choose add to Hard Drive (or whatever shows in Installer "Pop-Up")

6) SmartSound "Owned " should appear in Source "Drop-Down"

7) Select Library Radio Button

8) All of your SmartSound Cd's content should then show.

Let me describe the procedure I followed to get SmartSound working on S+12.1U (I'm using Windows XP SP3 and I have S9.4.3 and S+10.8 also installed):

I went to the SmartSound web site (http://www.smartsound.com/support/updates.html?product=pinnacle) and downloaded the Quicktracks installer for Studio 10 and higher. Following the instructions on the SmartSound web site, I ran Quicktracks once to remove SmartSound from S+10, then ran it again to install SmartSound in S+12U. The SmartSound menu then showed up in the Toolbox of S+12U but I could not access the SmartSound libraries. The program asked me to put the S+12U CD in the drive. I did that but it just hung and didn't complete the install. I went back to S+10 and opened SmartSound. It asked me a question about exanding the files and I answered "yes." After that finished the SmartSound libraries magically showed up in both S+10 AND S+12U.

Hope this will be helpful for others confronting this problem.

I have a clean machine with Studio12 Plus on it, using XP SP3, latest patch on Studio12. I have 3 Smartsound CDs I want to load up and I want Studio 12 to recognise them and use them. What do I have to do please to make Smartsound be recognised and useable within Studio12? Thanks John

Awesome News!!

Studio 12.1 and lower supports smart sound. You can follow the thread where I loaded from scratch studio 8 which was my full version then used studio 10.5 to enable smartsound on a brand new PC thus far is working great.

Thanks for the update -- Good News! Thanks to both Pinnacle and SmartSound for working this out. Obviously we'll be happier yet when the plug-in arrangement is in place and working. It's great that some companies do actually listen to their users -- very much appreciated.

While the plug-in feature is a good one, I will still wait to see what happens with Smartsound and others (ProDad, NewBlue, etc.). When the plug in is available, then I will celebrate. Since 2009 is the tentative date for the next release (NextGen or NextGen Lite?), I would guess that there might not be any more "bug fixes" for S12.

Although the original thread is not locked, please do not delete it. There are many posts in that thread that comment on the value to SmartSound of having SS support in Studio. It would be good for us to be able to direct SS management to that thread (and some posts in particular). We don't want their marketing and management teams to make the same mistake Pinnacle started to make.

There is no plan to delete the original thread. It was just locked and un-pinned.
