store video files on primary drive or secondary drive

On older slower computers it was advised to have programs on the primary drive (C drive) and video storage on another drive. This was supposed to speed up the editing process. Today's computers are much faster and many have solid state primary drives.  My new computer has a 1 TB solid state primary drive (C) and my secondary drive is a traditional 5 TB 7200 RPM spinning drive. I have been storing my video and audio files on the solid state drive for editing and using the second drive as back up storage. Is this the way to go?

     thanks,
