I believe that I have figured out what
has been causing the Green screen problem on my laptop. I am posting
this in case it might be of help for someone with a similar problem.
Pinnacle sometimes gives a “not
responding” message when performing a task. Initially I would shut
down and start over. Then I started using Microsoft's Task Manager
and discovered that even when that message came up, if Task Manager
showed CPU resources were being used, it was still performing the
task. I then started using Task Manager whenever I used Pinnacle so
I could always check.
Here is a summary of activity since I
last posted.

Repeated steps 1-3, but did NOT open
Task Manager and no Green screen
Shut down Pinnacle and Laptop and
disconnected USB drive
Repeated steps 1-3 including Task
Manager and got Green screen
I have now stopped using Task Manager
since it appears that under some circumstances there are some
conflicts with Pinnacle processes.
Since then I have loaded 15 tapes onto
the computer. Each was >5 hours and had dropped frames varying
from 0 to 324. The 42 movies on these tapes have been edited and
burned to DVD disks. I have had no Green screens or any Audio/Video
out of sync.
