    Not sure the reason for wanting to combine, but the same effect of this can be achieved making a sub-movie.  Make a move with the two clips side by side, and save, and pull this movie project into your master timeline.  Actually this is hugely more powerful than Pinnacle, because you can do MORE than combine to clips in the sub-movie, AND there are NO RESTRICTIONS on what goes into the timeline in the sub-movie (i.e. they don't have to be cut from the same original clip).  For the most part in the master project timeline, sub-moves can be trimmed, effects applied, etc, as though it were a single clip.

    Timeline layers/tracks have their place, but sub-movies have interesting properties in the timeline editor.
