Thanks Raff - spent all day with my Dad on his PC, but I still cannot capture on S14 using his 510-USB device.   We tried everything in your link, plus some suggestions from other threads, but S14 repeatedly crashes when we play the VCR through the USB device.   Luckily, he still has S12 so we use that to capture with no problems whatsoever.

It's a strange one, and I don't like admitting defeat, but at least we have a workaround.   Be interested to know if anyone on here successfully uses a USB-510 with S14.

 My Dad's spec is Dell 540 Desktop PC, 4Gb ram, 2.33Ghz cpu, ATI Radeon HD3450 - and yes I did check all the drivers.
