Hi Paul I've a Canon XM2 which can switch between 4.3 and 16.9. The only thing that I can see is when you switch to 16.9 on the camera it seems to zoom in a bit on my camcorder screen which is a 4.3 lcd screen so will have do a test to see what is recorded beyond the 4.3 screen
