I have the 1000 and use a Citydisc drive to capture both HDV and DV with it while I shoot to HDV on tape. Its pretty cool really I had some shooting to do for our church production and needed to edit right away so I had the camera downconvert thru the firewire to SD while I shot to HD on tape. When I was finished shooting hooked up the hard drive to a laptop and had almost instant access to the footage to edit. Went really quick and the downconverted footage was excellent almost looked HD in quality. I went with the 1000 due to it was comparable to the NX5 and I already had the accessories like the Cithdisc units and beachtek adaptors. I think you can get them pretty cheap these days and they have never let me down shooting either SD or HDV in over 4 years of using them. My drives are all 100 or 120 GB drives and give my lots of time (over 8 hours) to shoot with.
