    You are not doing something wrong but I'm afraid you expect too much. Video in the format DV NTSC has a fixed resolution of horizontally 720 pixels and 480 pixels vertically. There is no more hidden information which were needed to be able to show constantly a sharp picture when zooing in. Imagine you are using a magnifier to view your daily newspaper. The closer you move your eyes to the paper at an area with a picture the more you will notify that there are white spaces between colours. Same goes for video. If you had a still picture in the format .SVG then you could zoom in as much as you like as mathematical formular describe the picture.
