Many thanks. I'll try the video test (I'm assuming you mean watch it on my laptop). I am mainly wondering, though, how it will look on TV, as that's where it will end up being viewed.
I suppose the way I am thinking is that for an hour and a half film, rendered down to DVD, the compression process will lose enough quality for the difference between the two format to be negligible. If it turns out I get better quality from a 1 and a half hour AVI file converted from 1080i down to standard DVD, then I'll do it that way, but if the conversion to DVD from a 1 and a half hour AVI file converted from a 567i file ends up pretty much the same, then It seems easier in the long run to just capture in 567i.
I've got about six hours of raw footage, though, and I don;t want to capture it in the worst format, do a lot of editing, only to find the quality could have been better if I'd gone down the 1080i route.
I suppose my main problem is not really understanding the conversion process from AVI to DVD (I always render to AVI and convert that to DVD via Ulead Movie Factory). I always end up having to compress the file somewhat when I convert it to DVD (to fit it on the disk. Will converting a project from 1080i to AVI just result in a bigger AVI which needs more compression to fit on a DVD, and as such just lose the initial quality from the 1080is (If that makes sense.
Many thanks for the input.
