"And quality from "decent" AVCHD-based camcorders"

 Okay, bittman, can you give me a clue at to what is a "decent" AVCHD camcorder?  My concerns about quality stem from the fact that the ones I looked at have 1/5 & 1/6 sensors which seem pretty small to get such a large pixel count.  Maybe I am all turned around on that but it seems logical.   Point me in the right direction as to what I should look for and I will redo my research.
