    Thanksgiving in Cancun

My wife (the brunette) and a friend from work decided to get away from cold and snowy Colorado this past November. We took a trip to Cancun and had some pretty good times. As a result we snapped a lot of fun pics and some small clips of video which we sprinkled around the stills. With some appropriate music we made a fun little video with some interesting transitions in sync with the music.

Funny how the getaway and the Caribbean make you loose your inhibitions! At home we are all pretty reserved ...... Click the link below and ENJOY !! If you hang out for the 2nd piece of music, I think you'll see the different balance between a mellow beginning and a wilder ending. As well the differnce that Caribbean Rum can make on one's inhibitions !!

The old page stopped working so you can click here to load a little faster.

Studio 11 plus and a pretty old JVC vid camera.

    Jul,

Generally, the rule is "What goes on in Mexico, Stays in Mexico". How much film did you leave there ?  Wink Just Kidding.....

I liked the vid, especially the fast paced second part. Kinda makes me want to go back, but the last time I "Didn't Know How To Act". Wink

Thanks for sharing. Yes Hopefully Patndave (Dave) will share some of his when he gets back. (Hint Hint)

You must be REALLY close to leaving on your trip by now. We hope you have the time of your life. We will sit here in cold snowy Denver being as jealous as we can. Hope your travel is safe. The young lady we went with is now trying to talk us into an adventure to the other side. She wants to show us Ixtapa (check spelling) in March .... we are working on it !!

You might read my previous post again, "What goes on in Mexico, Stays in Mexico" !Yes

Hope you have a good time Dave. I have included the Spanish forums in my display, just in case you wish to write. Wink

Hey Jul, you might have to bring Dave back to the States in March. Since he has passed his conversational Spanish class, he might just decide to stay !!!

    Nice Video

I only have been to San Luis Potossi, Mexico twice....but everytime I went there my camcorder just had to break on me (I only have a few video clips that I took before the camcorder broke). Once again congratulations on your video

    Re: Thanksgiving in Cancun

Sorry to hear about your camcorder issues. I know on several occasions I've had problems with my camcorder as well. Quite possibly more of a humidity problem more than anything else. I think I've even had a small message pop up that the tape might be wet or there is condensation or something to that effect. At any rate, I just pop the tape out for a few minutes and stick it in my pocket. After a while it just works again. Maybe you'll have better luck on your next visit.

Thanks so much for giving the video a look. Trying hard to get better at this. I'm amazed at the wealth of information in these forums. There are many very helpful users who share their knowledge freely. Great bunch of folks. Good luck to you mi hermano.

    Cool

    Re: Thanksgiving in Cancun

omg we so enjoyed the vid/stills. my husband and i do it up in cancun 2x a year. not sure we have had as fun much as you guys appear to have had. we drank the rum too but never got that crazy. watered down drinks perhaps. not much into country music but your choices really worked well. we loved the tempo of the whole project. we are new to the forums and hubby is trying his hardest to get a grip on all this video editing stuff. maybe some day we will stumble into you in cancun and you can give us a few tips or better yet a few pointers on how to get that crazy.

we gonna go watch the vid again.

    PS

you are right about there being a wealth of info here ...... if only hubby would read and absorb.

    PSS

you have a pretty cool wife and your friend must be pretty cool too. crazy stuff. rum never made us do anything like that.

    Wink

    Thanks Linda C

Glad you enjoyed. Further up in the thread you will see that there is another couple headed to the warm sunshine as well. I'm thinking they are there right now and we will see if they enjoyed their trip too. I'm sure your hubby will start taking advantage of this forum and get his Studio act going. You guys take care and enjoy your next visit to Cancun. Dena and I will be traveling again in early April to visit the other side. We are going to give Zihuatanejo a shot. The other lady in the project ( Kathy F ) will be our guide as she has been there on several occasions. Hopefully we can put something fun together from that trip. Love your tag "salt water and sunshine".

We really hope you find better Rum on your next visit !!!! Our best to you guys. Thanks for taking a look ....

    Hiya towbar

YEP !! I was hoping to coax patndave into letting us in on some fun pics. Not sure how long they were going to be there but me thinks they should be back pretty soon. I'm sure it will take a few weeks to come back down to earth before they get motivated. Here's hoping they had a wonderful time and found some good quality Devil's Rum !!!

    Devil

Good hearing from you towbar. I just watched the band trailer that hook_texas posted and need to leave a comment. That was fun to watch as well .... wish I had been into this as my 2 youngsters were in high school. Alas they are in their 30's now. I have some old VHS tapes that I might be able to do something with. Old camping and fishing trips we used to take. Just need to figure out how to import or extract the stuff from tape to digital.

Keep nagging patndave for dirt !!!!!

    Re: Thanksgiving in Cancun

There are several ways to capture your old video tapes. Pinnacle sells devices for this purpose.

If you presently have a digital camera which has the 'pass through' capability, you can connect the video and audio output from the vhs machine into your camera inputs, then connect via the firewire connection on the camera to the computer. The pass through method will do a lot to clean up the video and help to eliminate out of sync problems. In Studio, your capture screen should show that you are capturing from your digital camera.

    Re: Thanksgiving in Cancun

Like I've said before, there is a wealth of info here. Thanks Don !

I believe I do have the "pass through" capabilities. In fact I was giving thought to just how I was going to procede. What was rolling around was to simply "copy" from the VHS player back onto the mini DV tape in the camera. Was then going to move from the camera back into Studio via the firewire. I'm certain your solution is a much better alternative as far as degradation to original tape. Thanks so much for your input and I will certainly listen to those with experience in here. I'll give son number 1 a call and get the original tapes. He stil just watches the raw footage of those days gone by and enjoys them even now.

Thanks Don ... appreciate the help !!

So they twisted your pinky to drink one for us? Good Job !!

Hope you had a good time, soaking up that winters' sun. For a while there I was starting to wonder if..........well the sand is........and the view is..........and the scenery is.........well you get my drift.

I looked at your picture, and it didn't look like you were having to force yourself to partake.  Big Smile

    Re: Thanksgiving in Cancun

Ok, so I slapped together a few clips from our trip (nothing wild and crazy so don't get your hopes up Smile ) and posted the video on the TripAdvisor website to give other travelers an idea of the place.  You can see it here.  It is in the Traveler's Photos and Videos section.

Mike, not much forcing required.  As they reached for my pinky, I quickly learned "Quisiera una margarita, por favor" Wink.  No pain!
