A "Quickie/Freebie" For Your Perusal . . .
Here’s a little “Quickie/Freebie” I threw together for a civic group I belong to.
The primary goal is provide entertainment for local club members (i.e. “home movies”) . . . And secondarily to take the DVD on visits to other clubs as a method to better highlight one of our primary annual fundraisers.
Shot with a Sony TRV-900 and edited w/ Liquid.
Not looking for overly critical comments . . . Only sharing a “Just For Fun” project for your perusal!
Here ya’ go:

Tim - nice job.
Nice opening - throws us off guard thinking it's just a 'nature' video (although very beautiful). You framed the airplane very well. It's not easy to follow that sort of action with a tight zoom but you did it! I liked the music and felt the pace was in keeping with the action. Overall I found the piece engaging.
My only concern was for the little dog - I kept thinking it was going to run after the airplane and get caugt in the prop. By the looks of it, that little dog has been around these models quite a bit.
Thanks for sharing.

Tim,
I really enjoyed the video. Like Steve said, the opening kinda misled me, but the camera work was really great. For me, the real hook was the fact that I did a lot of radio control flying a number of years ago, and until I developed a significant arthritis in my neck and couldn't do it any more. I really got a vicarious thrill seeing you put the plane thru its paces. Nice job on the video. Who took the pictures if you were flying the plane??

Thanks for the comments! I, too, worried for the dog, but as you say, he sure seemed comfortable around the airplane and prop...
Denny, that's not me flying, I did the shooting. I just finished it off with that title...
I have been cruising at www.vimeo.com and posted the video there. You can see it in hi def (put your cursor in the video and when the icons pop up, click 'HD off' to 'HD on') and go to 'full' to see it full screen. It downloads and plays much quicker but I don't like the 'jerkiness' that seems to get imparted to the video. Don't know what that is about.
Here is a link for you to try out, and the first link should still work as well.

Sensational!
In what output did you make the final movie?
With Liquid or did you use another program?
And how do the properties get on the screen?
Oh boy: I have to learn a lot!

It's a bit tough to say what I used for the final movie...I first made a WMV with windows media encoder outside of Liquid, that is what you see in the first link on my website here, then I took the fused .avi at 1280X720 (or some such) and put it on vimeo so it would download quicker for folks. I then put it back on tape in the full 1440X1080i so I could watch it in it's native form on my HDTV (wow!) which took a bunch of help from Lew and then a bunch of experimenting here to make things go. It isn't automatic and will take some learning on our part, but as you can see, it's worth it! The properties got on the screen from within vimeo, so I'm assuming that's what you watched.
It's all fun! And I'm certainly not the first guy to go through this, so we'll all help each other as we go!

Tim,
again thanks. It is difficult to share these experiences when the details were not recorded.
I too like to do the wmv in WME, but there are so much settings and one always have to count for the upload speed. That is what your wmv lacks (and my wmv's too). The upload speed is too low.
It is nice to see that sites like vimeo offer much more power so the movies can be played in the highest possible quality and at an acceptable speed.
I'm far from re-recording the movie back to tape and I wonder that such an easy process (as it looks in DV times) requires so much help and experiments.
Maybe we could open a thread onn this subject where everybody can tell his/her stories. And I hope in plain language, with lots of screen prints.

I use www.blip.tv. You can upload your video in many different formats (even HD).

I have some stuff at: http://www.swensonmediagroup.com/html/demo.html for any old FASTies the 20th aniv video was produced in '05 for the 20aniv party, its a funny look back at the Munich family. Many of the Liquid developers and QAE team are in the video.

Sure does look good! It looks like the same winter over there as we have over here...
Someone should caution the dog about taking candy from strange men!

Sef,
Very impressed with the clarity of detail when you zoom in on the branches, at least I aassume that you zoomed in rather than apply a 2d effect. What would happen if a 35mm lens was attached to the cam, eg for wide angle or zoom? BTW, I am already setting up my wife that expenditure on another cam would be a good retirement present - sadly, I will still have to pay for it!

First thanks for such a warm comment on my first steps on the HDV path!
Of course, I zoomed in with 10X zoom on the camera. The Canon let you define the constant zoom speed. I choose for the lowest setting and, when the zoom is used, it will zoom in or out at the constan speed. Though some practice is needed, but the starters try was already almost perfect.
With the camera ,I bought an extra wide angle lens. In the package was also a telelens. Afterwards, I'm not so glad I bought this couple. The wide angle is hardly more wide angle than the lens on the camera. It produces in the 4 edges, the known shadow of the objective., when zoomed out. I did not notice this shadow in the viewer, I saw it when I had captured the clips. To get rid of them, one has to apply a 2D filter. And if not neccessary, I will avoud all kinds of 2/3D effects on HDV stuff. It will lower he quality, I think.
What is shown in the clips, is all with the "standard" objective. In some clips I have slightly zoomed in (static).
The extra lensset, costed me about 90 Euro's. I know that excellent wide angle objectives are far more expensive.
And if you can persuait your wive: show her the first attemps you shoot. She will be impressed and will accept the financial loss.
But how you (and I) can go for the next steps: Full HD TV-set and maybe someday, a HD recorder?
Oh boy. It will be a nightmare....

Mooi Sef, heel goed gedaan! I also have a Canon HV 20 & find the picture amazing even compared to my XH A1! As i sit here in the heat of summer in Australia, your film took me back to winter in Holland when i was there a couple of years ago.
Groeten,
Bryce
