    Let's go mountain biking

I am working on a series of trail guides to introduce trails, show how to get there, were to go, what food, support, and hospitals are in the area. The video has a topo overlay with 'signs' to tell the new rider what to look for while riding. It also helps folks decide if that trail is at their level.  I am changing the lower third CG stuff such as "Rocks" and "Roots" to a Hash A:M generated graphic with the words.  This set was Deshaken in HDV 1080/30p (timewarp Progressive).  I am running 3 audio layers and will have a voice-over 4th in final.  I have up to 2 HDV video lines and up to 6 graphic overlays.  The maps are exports from Topofusion and either Targa sequences from Fraps AVI (not shown) or JPGs then converted to Targa with an alpha channel added.  The bike graphic is created in Animation:Master as a 30 frame targa (360 deg in 1 second TGA seq) and then using each angle.  Synced to the map using 2D CPU.

OK, this sample is 98MB. But this is 720x480 at almost DVD quality and you can make out the detail.

Full res WMV - Open or right-click and save as

Youtube kills the resolution, but it is here now

    Re: Let's go whitewater rafting!

I realize I mis-posted this message in the wrong forum.

Just finished the video from my latest whitewater rafting trip in October.  Lots of great footage plus some very funny stuff as well..  Source content for this video came from digital still cameras, including some low res video from those same cameras as well as a single chip Sony ams a 3 chip Panasonic.  Completely cut in 7.2.  Voice Overs made in Adobe Audition.

As always, constructive comments are appreciated.

George... where was the camera mounted?  I am very impressed with the post prod stabalization.  Nice job.

    Re: Let's go mountain biking

    George,

Deshaking was impressive.  What did you use?

    Re: Let's go mountain biking

I used Deshaker (through Harold's Plugin).  I am now using Mercalli, which is much faster.  The disadvantage is that they both add noise, so I am working on tuned settings for reduce noise with Mercalli.

Andy, it is side mounted on a Fullface helmet.  I posted pics at DvInfo in this thread.  That Thead

Edit - The video in the link has no Deshake.

    Re: Let's go mountain biking

    My thoughts:

You did a great job capturing the POV of the rider.

You would greatly add to the production value of the video if you have some cut-away shots from static cameras or maybe a chase cam from another rider (front or rear). Moving your cam to another position on the bike to show wheels, cranks, and the moving bits of the bike would also be huge. Easily done with a Bogen superclamp BTW. It doesn't matter if its a true sync with the main POV. Just quick cut-aways to break up the single shot. If the video in link I downloaded didn't include the deshaker, don't add it. Making the video too clean will take away from the experience. Part of running the trail is the bumps. Don't take them all out. I think the weight of your head and helmet are more than enough stabilization.

I use a GPS based telemetry system that would work nicely here to show where you were on the trail at any time. Having a little trail map in the lower corner with a dot showing your position would be very cool and extremely helpful to your audience.

Is the intent here to show complete trails in real time or just how the trail runs? If the later concept the goal I would recommend making the video more of a montage with interview footage cut in. You could better control the pace of the video and and in that keep the audience more engaged. It would also take the pressure off of making a full clean run all at once.

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...

Very good piece.  A couple of questions if I may; How long have you been using the Merlin?  How long did it take to get proficient with it?

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...

Thanks John & Steve, I have been using the Merlin for nearly two years (arm & vest 2 months). How long did it take to get proficient with it? Depends how critical your eye is, only just last week I shot a wedding and I did quite a long walking back Steadicam shot as the bride & groom exited the church and after reviewing the footage later it I thought man! that was technically perfect! That was a first for me, but generally speaking you can get pretty good within a few months.

AW: Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...

I made a videoclip for a swiss band called Crystal Ball. You can find it on my website www.augenblick.net/crystallball. There is also a 720p Quicktime Version of this Clip (100MB)

We used this brandnew toy called LETUS35 Extreme.  A 35mm  Adapter that makes Video look like Film. The Camera was the Panasonic HVX200.

    Enjoy

Hi Peter, I have tried watching it but every time I try, internet explorer 7 shuts down, a standard install of explorer this is.

    Your website opens up well.

My quicktime 7,2 doesn´t seem to like this from inside of IE 7.

AW: Re: AW: Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...

    Hi guys

I don't know why it isn't working for you. Maybe because it's an h264 encoded video? Here it works within IE7 and Firefox no problem.

But you might wanna go to this site www.augenblick.net/crystalball-hd go to the next site where you can download the 720p version and the Making of.

P.S. The shots were color corrected using the MovieLooks Berlin filter. Except for the girl sequence which had the Warmish filter applied. Great tool!

A new mom just returned from maternity leave during the halloween party, so I did my best with the 21 sec of footage.  I shot 16:9 but google refomatted. Any suggestions?

    Re: Show your Liquid Stuff...

Fuse your 16:9 sequence. Start a new sequence and set as 4:3. Drop your fused sequence onto the 4:3 timeline and right-click, select video properties and select scaling - fit largest-keep aspect, then let it render. Now export to your chosen file. Cute kid.

    Re: Show your Liquid Stuff...

Hey Nick... looked like a fun shoot...  Haven't been to Adelaide for a few years but that looked like it was up in the hills up the back of Glen Osmond Road or there abouts based on the view back over the city... So did you have to hire the Harley or was it a loaner?? Hired Harley's go faster and rev higher for longer than loaners, of course!! :)

Nah, we just dragged this guy out of a group of 50 bikers and took him up to the hills and told him to sit there and shut up until we were finished. Yeah right! One of the crew knows him - friend of a friend. Cool

    Re: Show your Liquid Stuff...

I have placed a wmv file of "Fiona Returns to Antarctica" here for download. Be aware it is about 85mb and just under an hour long. This video captures the highlights of Captain Eric Forsyth's sail from Long Island, NY to Antarctica and back over about a year in 2006-2007. This is an improved encode using WME9.

Sorry about the quality but it is the best I can do at this time.

Real nice, thanks for sharing, I have been to some of those places myself, especially remember that valley at Madeira.

The movie beats many of the travelling movies showed on television I think at the same time that it is very personel.

Encoded by mediaencoder I believe, looking forward to the fullsize version, wanna borrow a nice 500 gb server in Europe?

A VBR 55% qualitybased VC1 fullsize codec profile exported from within liquid should be interesting to laborate with.

    Re: Show your Liquid Stuff...

I just received the finished trailer of 1%: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n1i2VwfIDQ

This was not edited with liquid, (fcp) but it should have been, the picture quality of the avi I was sent is terrible.
