Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Well I have been gathering material for this project for awhile and finally got some things together thought I would post a short segment and sort of see what yall thought before I got to far into it.This is a ww2 video I decided to make from and old audio recording of my grandfathers account of Germany. I do realize that some of the clips don't fit exactly right yet this is the first run and the audio still needs more work .I have run the audio through sound booth several times and gotten rid of most of the hiss an about 9 zillion pops but I still have some noise.sounds like electrical hum with a wind blowing any suggestions on how to get rid of this would be appreciated. I've actually made some very surprising discoveries while working on this project and hope to reveal them with the finished product http://www.vimeo.com/1334711

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Fascinating work Alan, cleaning old audio is real difficult and I think that some of the noise has to be left, after all, people understands that it is an old film, you have done a great job so far, maybe you have taking away a little to much in some places, I can hear his voice changing in some phrases but to find the exacts spot and remove only the bad sound without affecting the sound you want to keep is real difficult, keep up the good work and keep us updated

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
One of the issues with any sound program that removes noise is if you do too much at once the voice starts to sound mechanical or like they are in a tunnel. The best way to go is slowly small increments will prove to give the highest results but take a major amount of time. It would almost be better to leave some of the noise in with a piece like this as it add a feeling of reality tv to the voice. In any case this will be a great family remembrance........Good Luck ALAN.........Edd

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
You might consider putting some sort of period music or patriotic score under the VO to help cover the dryness of the result. Just a thought......Edd

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
I had thoughts tonight that I should just upload the whole vo track with what I have put together at this time in order to get more input from al7 users. If I do that am I giving his story away? to be used on U tube or where ever by any one? My main objective is to tell his story to the world,I would love to share it with Liquid users first (in the making) . Before I go further should I get some kind of copy rite?? Not something I'm expecting to make a living off of but don't want NBC or CBS stealing my story either. At same time if either used it I would be very proud. This story to me is like opening a treasure chest ,the deeper I look in the more I find.

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
I've just completed a short video for an interesting group of people. Struggled with wind noise, it was shot in a very exposed location.
Watch it on Vimeo here

I really like the panning of the photograph, where you fade the subject from black and white to color. How did you do that?

Thanks Guy. An insightful and relaxing human interest piece. Some really nice touches on your behalf too.
OK--I know it is obtuse, but I could not help but notice that the Brits push their carts while most in the US pull them.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Here's a short video I made of highlights from the Sun'n Fun airshow here in Lakeland Florida. I wanted to capture the excitement of the event while giving a taste of all the different types of aircraft and activities. Of course, I didn't manage to inclued the Thunderbird's show, or the Osprey's, or the Ultralights in this short three minute segment. Comments on the flow, pacing, composition or anything else would be helpful to me. It would be nice if I could get some formal training some day. Anybody now anything about the 4EVer GRoup conference coming to Orlando in January?

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Roger,
Thanks for sharing--it was great to watch while taking a break from a stressful morning. I liked the lower 3rds. They were attractivley done and seemed to fit well with the theme. Music was good too. While I thought that some of the (not sure what to call them) white plasma thingies seemed a bit random as I expected to be used as transitions, they were not overused. I also thought the semi-transparent flag at the end was an excellent visual exclamation point. I know that it was very loud ot there, and you did well balancing the prop/engine noise with the BG track. Good job!
BTW--I'm originally from Tampa and have spent lots of time in lovely Lakeland.

Hey Roger nice footage! Real nice picture quality. Is that a mono pod stuck in your belt?

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Fred, Glad you liked the video. The plasma thingies are Digital Juice swipes that are used for transitions, but I used them to hide a couple of flaws, (artifacts introduced by Mercalli). I guess they worked! I did modify them in Liquid's own editors, as I did the other DJ effects. Where do you get your gear in Tampa? I like to try equipment before I buy and the only decent camera shop in Lakeland recently went out of business.
Mike, I see you spotted the monopod. At the time I only had a cheap tripod, which I used on some static shots, and used the monopod when we were walking around site seeing. A few of the scenes were hand held, and it made me appreciate the swivel grip on the JVC-GRHD1. Now I have a nice pair of Induro Sticks with a Gitzo Fluid head, and a Manfrotto 682B monopod (with little feet too!). Pans and tilts were a problem with the cheap tripod. Next year I'll be able to follow the action better. I also have a big external lcd preview monitor to help with focusing issues ( I couldn't see the Stealth was slightly out of focus.) And is there someplace in Orlando where you get your gear?
I'm thinking about another camcorder, but price is an issue. I at least need to get a second consumer HD camera soon and some lavs and lights. I have a couple of gigs coming up. It's still a hobby, but maybe I can convince my present employer to do some of the video work in house (by me!) Also have a wedding, a concert, and a theatrical pageant to do this year (pro bono.)
I have hours of footage from the 2007 and 2008 shows. It's a great way to practice working with the camera. I did drain all my batteries before the Thunderbirds put on their show. Maybe I can get them next spring.

Sorry about the delay in responding - I didn't realize anyone had actually commented! Essentially I used a whole series of masks I created in Photoshop Elements (the tracing tools these days are soooo good - then made everything around them into B & W, applied colour effects to bring the individual into colour and back to B & W. I know this isn't a very good description, but I've actually forgottent the exact details. The panning is just with the 2D CPU editor.
Thanks for the comment.

Ah yes - but could you tell that they are electric? I don't know about other clubs in Britain, but at this one you have to have special (and with the British old-school way of doing things, I mean SPECIAL) dispensation to be allowed to use a big "American style" cart - so they have the ones you see in the video. You take out the battery at night and recharge it and it's ready for you in the morning for another game. Half the stories in the clubhouse seem to be about "the day Joe forgot to charge his batteries", or what happens when you let go of it and it runs away from you faster than you expected and your clubs end up in the hedge!
LOL.

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Roger I am like you. I like to try something before I buy it. But unfortunately I have not been able to do that. I bought most of my stuff from B&H. When I was in New York last year I stop by B&H. The store is very big and has an unbelievable amount of items. There’s no place here in Orlando to buy video equipment. I use a varizoon dc rig jr it works great but they don't make it anymore. As far as a camera if your going to do weddings, concerts, I have found that one of the most important things to look for is low light. Most camera will get a great picture but low light is important. A wedding is about an 1 hour in good light the reception is 4-5 hours in low. I would go no higher than a 3 lux.

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
Mike, Thanks for answering my question about shopping for gear in Orlando. Lakeland did have a pretty good camera shop that had a little bit of video gear, and I was able to test tripods and heads with my camera, both with and without the external monitor attached befored settling on the tripod, gitzo head, and manfrotto monopod. Unfortunately, it was during their going out of business sale. I did get my present camera from B&H. I'm thinking of attending the 4Ever group conference in Orlando this coming January, primarily to actually see the gear. B&H, JVC, Canon etc. are all supposed to be there. There are only a very few videographers here in Polk County, and I don't know any of them yet. Not even any serious hobbiests (except for one college student). At least I'm picking the brains of some local musicians and sound guys. Most of my video education comes from this forum, training videos, and books. The only weddings I have in the near future are in locations where light won't be an issue. But I do want at least one new camera. I'm considering the JVC ProHD series (maybe the 110). My consumer HD1 could be the B camera, and they should be compatible on the same timeline in Liquid.
I won't get enough time to do much video because of my work, unless video becomes a big part of my work, hopefully with my present employer. I work for a very large medical group practice, with over 200 doctors and a couple of thousand employees, and there is plenty of opportunity for video work with them. But I may have to try my hand at starting a business, but keeping all my licenses and certifications up to date in my present profession.
Roger

Re: Son of Show your Liquid Stuff...
You might consider having your talent either do some rehearsing or use a script. Too many ands, and umms in the final clip. Sounds unprofessional no matter how nice the video is. Its almost as if it was shot on the fly with no practice. Music helped the piece but your talent didn't seem real excited about his craft as he could have. If I were you (and I'm not) I would think about re shooting and get some life in the interviewer................ Editing was nice though.

It was shot on the fly, this was a last minute project. Shot, edited in three days. They needed the video for a trade show in Vegas.
