    Band Video Trailer

I have put together a DVD of my daughters High School band the past few years.  I put together a "Trailer" that I show at the winter concert to spur sales as I do this for a fund raiser for the band.  Figured I'd put this years out there for you all to see and perhaps get some comments.  Hope the link works :)

Well, can't figure out how to make a clickable link, so I guess you'll have to cut and paste.

Hey, pretty good stuff ! From one "Band Dad" to another, looks like a pretty nice job. I'm seeing that the "One on One" stuff is gonna be pretty funny ! Your trailer does a good job, I wanna see more. Cool

You mentioned in a previous discussion that this is your  "Senior" year, any chance of you doing this next year? And the next ? Just wondering. Wink

    Re: Band Video Trailer

Thanks for the comments! :)  The One on One stuff is funny.  Get all sorts of responses.  Generally get a more serious response from Freshman, by the time they are Seniors you never know what they will say.

Although I really enjoy doing this, without having my daughter there, there is no way I could invest the time putting the DVD together.  Between shooting the video, editing, burning and selling I put well over 100 hours into these.  All of the funds go to the band, I just cover the cost of DVDs, ink and covers. Without my daughter as motivation, I wouldn't get it done. It was hard enough this year with my new job. :)

    Hey that was great !

My daughter was in a marching team for a few years so i can relate to the time/effort thing although i wasn't into video editing then but i wish i had been, it's nice to look back at stuff like that.

    Well done.

    Iain.

    Re: Band Video Trailer

Nice job on the video. Unless you have put one of these together, you can't appreciate fully the time and effort it takes to complete the job.

In order to make a clickable link, put a word such as "click" in your text, highlight the word and then click on the chain link icon in the tool bar. You'll get a window where you can enter your URL. Close the window and that's all there is to it. It won't work while you are in the editing mode, but it will when you post.

If I may, I'll make a couple of suggestions for your sound voice-over track. There are pops and hum. The pops can be decreased by talking across the mike rather than into it, and/or adding a pop filter. A very effective pop filter is take a piece of panty hose material, stretch it in an embroidery hoop and place the microphone about two inches behind the filter.

The hum can be reduced by applying the equalizer filter in Studio and attenuating the frequencies below 100 htz. If you have S 11 Ultimate, the Soundsoap plugin works very well for noise and hum.

Enjoyed seeing your work. I can relate to this, as a long time ago I was in a marching band. I didn't like it, but it was a requirement in order to play in the concert band.

    Re: Band Video Trailer

Thanks for the voice over tips Don!  I try to get rid of the pops via sounds volume, but as I throw the trailer together pretty quickly, I don't get them all.  It is good to now know a way to more efficiently work with voice overs.  I don't do very many, but this is good information.

Off Topic - I'm currently in China on business and tried to watch the trailer.  Came up with a message that Viewing Google videos in my current country is not allowed.  Interesting some of the sites that are "filtered" over here.  Can't get to Wikipedia either.

Enjoyed the vid. Nice work and I'm sure the kids appreciate all the time and effort you have put into this. Most of us here know these things aren't push button operations. Rather they take a lot of resource on your part. You'll make a lot of of kids happy and more importantly, you'll leave something behind for their proud parents to appreciate as time goes by.

Wel done and I agree with towbar ...... show us more.

    Regards,

    Re: Band Video Trailer

Jim, thanks for the videos. I'm working on my 6th year of the 8 year plan as a video dad, so I'm gonna have to copy some of your ideas. Even though I haven't a reason to create a trailer, I do create an intro on our DVD. Transitioning through the programs (brochures) at the beginning will give a nice preview of the events. And I will have to add an interview with the kids, it created a very nice add to the memories.

A nice job on "Both" of the vids.  ! Big Smile

    Hook_Texas,

Ditto. I'm going to borrow some of these ideas, too!  The interview with the kids is a terrific idea.  I wish I had seen this sooner as football season just ended.  Great job on your video trailers!
