    Menus in MP4

    Hi All, again

Having successfully imported and re-edited one (particular) video from a VIDEO_TS folder I have tried to export again in MP4. However, I have placed the new video on a mamory stick and tried it in my smart TV. The video works just fine but the menus and chapters are ignored. Is there another format that will preserve all? I have looked on the net but the only info I get from there is MP4 doesn't support menus and chapters. However, these posts are not dated so they may be outdated.

Any ideas, anyone. (I bet Saby's infinite knowledge and wisdom will have something to say on this subject Cool He's a cool dood)

    Re:Menus in MP4

mp4 standard does support menus as well as chaptering. But creating menus is very very tricky : a textual language format (XMT or BT) is needed to create the menu authoring and then has to be compiled/encoded into the mp4 BIFS stream. It's actually not an easy process ! Very technical !

For chaptering it's easier but anyway, Studio can't generate a mp4 file with chapters and I doubt that any TV would read them even if they were existing in the mp4 stream.

    Hi Saby

Many thanks for clearing that up, for me. Certainly in my case(s) it's not worth the effort.

    Best regards

    Tony

I hope I'm not breaking the forum rules by asking in this thread; is it normal for MP4 to take ages to encode. It whizzes along for a short while, (seconds) then appears to freeze, although it hasn't. To encode a 40 min video is taking several hours.

Hardware, heat, thermal throttling of hardware if running hot, type of format and what was done to the video, background tasks running while the video is be encoded, anti virus monitoring the file being written........

You should have opened a separate thread,  for sure.

Now it's too late so I answer here to your question.

What preset are you using when exporting the .mp4 ?

    Re: Re:Menus in MP4

    Thanks Tony

I can rule out anti virus, (unless Widows Defender could do it) and overheating is unlikely on my PC. I thnk it has something to do with the video being encoded as it has moments of running normally. I would be more inclined to think it's something to do with titles, teansitions effects etc. I suppose I was wondering if anyone had experienced this and what, if anything, they did to fix it. The process was to import the video from a a VIDEO_TS folder do a few random checks on it working, in Edit mode and then going to Export in MP4.
