    Video Conversion Color Loss

Hello, all. Long-time pinnacle-user, first-time poster. I make video game videos for YouTube, mostly on PC up until recently, usually in 1440p and with no issues (except for the program freezing and shutting down every so often, during editing, but I figure that's normal).

Now I record some things on PlayStation 5 as well, but therein lies the issue. PS5 records in 1920x1080 MP4s and 3840x2160 WEBMs (4k). Naturally, I want the most quality for my work, so I immediately went with 4k, but little did I know that Pinnacle Studios does not support WEBMs, so I acquired a program called Wondershare, that can convert WEBMs to a usable file type (MOV in this case). However, now I have a new set of problems.

I took a screenshot of the straight-from-PS5 4k WEBM as it appears in Windows player:

And a screenshot of what happens to the video after converting to 4k MOV:

You can see my dilemma. In a previous PS5 game video I worked on, I was able to achieve some measure of success at restoring the original coloring using the 'Base Color Correction' under Effects (fx), then I saved it as a custom FX Composition to use later.

Surprise surprise, that fix did not work on this current game. Nothing I am trying seems to come even close to the original video's color quality, and I am quickly losing my sanity.

So, I am asking: am I going about this all wrong? Is there a different method to achieve what I'm after? Is there a different program I could use to achieve my goal, or do I have to come to terms with the fact that what I am trying to do is impossible in this instance?

    Re:Video Conversion Color Loss

Hi and welcome to this forum.

There is no reason during the WEBM to MP4 conversion to get such a desaturate image.

Try another converter. Handbrake is free and should make wonders.

I will try this. Wish me luck!

I think this sort of worked. I went with MKV this time, and there was no color loss upon converting, but some clarity was lost on the visuals, as you can see towards the background:

I guess I will have to tweak and play with the Presets a bit more, but this was a step in the right direction!

Might be an insufficient bitrate issue.

    Re: Re:Video Conversion Color Loss

So, I turned the Bitrate up to Lossless in order to remedy the issue. When the conversion finally finished, I played it using Windows' player and the color looked exactly how I need it to look. When I opened it in Pinnacle, the color is back to being awful.

    I am losing my mind.

    This does not make sense.

A CODEC can be lossless, not a bitrate.

I meant codec. I am not at all versed in video-editing jargon.

I have a question for you..... when you have the clip on the timeline, and you click on the little gears in the upper left corner of the timeline toolbar.... what are your settings? What is Imaging set to?

    Re: Re:Video Conversion Color Loss

Would you give a shot of Mediainfo to your file and post here a screenshot of its tree view ?

How to use Mediainfo : http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/708486.aspx

Hiow to add a picture to a post : http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/326384.aspx

BTW, it's better to attach a file like explained above, rather than using an external service like you did in this thread. In case this external service is dead or the pictures no longer available, your thread is fulll of holes.

    Re: Re:Video Conversion Color Loss

Also, if possible, can you upload a raw clip to the cloud?
