Ok having seen several threads Here and Here I thought I'd do some tests here as I was having problems on the Desktop that sounded similar, so i picked one of the video's that i had recently recorded on the Insta360 Go2 and tried to play it in the library on my desktop, playback of the video side of it was very slow and choppy, but audio sounded fine, so i then put it on the timeline and it would only play back smoothly after having set the optimization threshold upto about 80% and let it render out. Having done this I then copied the video over to my laptop and it played fine both in the library and on timeline (threshold optimization 9%). Next i opened PS23U on the desktop created a project bin for the file and tried playing it in the library there and it pl;ayed fine, put it on timeline with threshold set to 9% and it plays fine there as well. Backed up library and control panel settings in PS24U on desktop and then reset Studio, still no joy, details of video from Mediainfo below General Complete name : D:\Dropbox\Dropbox (Personal)\Pinnacle\insta360\PRO_VID_20210329_134134_00_008.mp4 Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : Base Media Codec ID : isom (isom/iso2/avc1/mp41) File size : 536 MiB Duration : 1 min 6 s Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 68.0 Mb/s Encoded date : UTC 2021-03-29 13:41:24 Tagged date : UTC 2021-03-29 13:41:24 Writing application : Lavf58.13.101

Candive: kiteflyer:...however what is really strange is that I can preview & edit those self same clips in PS24.1.0.260 on my laptop the same as i can in PS23 on the desktop, basically without any problem..............
Yes that is a bit odd. Unfortunately I don't have another computer with just PS24 to test that scenario . I'm assuming you just have PS24 on your laptop.
Yeah just 24 on the laptop, wondering whether there is some sort of conflict, might try adding 23 to the laptop and see what happens

kiteflyer:Ok just put together a quick video that shows the difference on the desktop between PS24 & PS23 & also PS24 on the laptop
Ok been doing some more testing, I uninstalled PS23U on the desktop, and it didn't make any difference, so had a look at various different files from different sources and realised that this was predominately files from the Insta360 Go2, which have to be converted from their original format (shot in Pro mode) before they can be used in PS24, this i do in Inst360 Studio. When converting files you have 3 codec choices H264, H265 or ProRes244, so i converted the clip used in the previous test video into all 3 different codes and then previewed them all in the library, before viewing them all on the timeline, H264 was jittery and and not really any good (as per previous test), both the other files played fine, these results were the same on the timeline with the threshold optimisation set at 9%

jjn:I'm not surprised that ProRes was OK as it's a lightly compressed codec, but amazed that 265 plays back better the 264. Their is either something odd about the conversion or PS24 doesn't like it. Do you have the same issue with h.264 from other sources?
Hi Jeff, Just tried with a clip from the Mini2 which is H.264 & that isn't smooth either, details below, what i find really strange is that the exact same clips preview and play fine on the laptop

jjn:Yes, but you've lost all the fixes from the 24.1 patch....
Yeah that is the problem, seem to remember loads to do with the titler

plemmens:... and you need to pay attention as on every launch of rolled back PS24 you get a request to install the/a patch, which is at least for the time being the problematic 269 build.
Cheers Paul, yeah I'll keep an eye out for that, hopefully they'll sort the problem fairly quickly, and if i want to make use of any of the fixes in the troublesome patch, I've always got the laptop which doesn't suffer with any of the problems bought on by the patch. Hope you are well
