Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

I downloaded the small package and restored it to video using an old laptop Intel i7 3630QM, 2.4 Ghz, these are my Render Results.

PS 24 U, version 24.2.0.219: 14 Seconds. I do not have the latest update on this laptop.

    PS 23 U: 6 Seconds.

    PS 17 U, 6 Seconds.

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

    Tony P:

A lot of people talk about 24fps, but do not understand the reason why film was shot at that frame rate. Are they shooting with the 180 degree rule?

Many talk about "cinematic", but do not even know what that means. These are buzz words tossed around like LUT's, "color grading" vs "color correcting" trying to mimic what professionals do.  Heck, if you look at my "old" videos shot with a Canon HF10 1080i, you would say "cinematic". Organic "grain" and Canon's color science back then, produces a "look". Today, comparing it to my 4K and 1080 50/25 footage, it looks "dated". Lots of information about "cinematic look" out there. And if you read a lot of it, many don't agree on "how" giving personal opinions. Don't get caught up with the "hype".

There is a lot that can be done by anyone to achieve a "cinematic" look. Adding "grain", softening the image slightly (using old lenses) and choosing the right color grade/LUT for the video. Slowing a video down, well, gives you a slow video. Move slower in your shoot.

Fair enough. All this aside though, I think we can both agree that any video editing software should offer you the basic functionality to slow down 120fps clip to a 24fps slow motion video, if that is the “look” or final result you intend to get. If it doesn’t then there must be something wrong with the original clip itself (I do not believe this is the case here) or the software (more likely, still trying to figure it out).

Moving slower is not always an option, for example when you try to capture a subject that is running.

And to answer the question you started with, the videos will mostly be shown/viewed on a laptop / mobile phone, perhaps on a tv too.

Thanks for looking into it, I will follow your suggestion on editing. The question is what frame rate do I then export to? 24fps does not give me a smooth video, I already tried. My concern with going above 24fps is that it will negatively impact the 24fps original clips. I will check different settings and see what I get though.

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

Regarding the performance issues observed after the 24.1 patch (issues here and related ones reported elsewhere):

The slower timeline rendering is a regression, a side effect of a fix for another issue.  When we implemented that fix, we believed that any negative effects would not be so severe, nor observed by a wider group that has emerged now.

We apologize to those affected, and we are working to fix it properly.

Until a hotfix (file replacement) is possible, if you would like to go back to 24.0.2, we don't have a "roll-back" option, but these steps will get you there:

    1. Uninstall PS24.  There should be no need to remove content, but this won't hurt, either.
    3. Double click to run the installer.  After the registration screen, there will be a screen with options Complete, and Custom.  Select "Custom."
    4. In the "..Ready to Install" screen, uncheck the box to download the patch.  Proceed with installation.

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

I'm on 23.2.1.297 and I THINK i'm experiencing the same issue. When working in the timeline, some video clips playback like the video is in slow motion, even though the audio sounds fine. It is not all clips, just some. I don't believe this was the case originally on the clips, I only started seeing the issue after I did some splitting of clips and moving them around on the timeline.

If i move to the "roll-back" version of 24 as mentioned here, am I likely to have this issue resolved? If so, I assume my existing project can be opened and continued in PS24 without any issues? I bought 24 as part of the Humble Bundle recently, but I have been happy with 23 and am in the middle of a very large project, so saw no reason to move to 24. I've spent a ton of time on the current project and would absolutely hate to lose my progress, but don't see how I can continue with how it's functioning right now. Please advise?

Worth giving it a try with PS24. It can't be harmful for your current project.

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

I don't have time to really dig into my project in-depth yet, so I could be wrong, but in case anyone else is in the same boat I was in:

following the directions to move to PS24 (the version linked earlier in this thread) seems to have resolved the issue i was experiencing with PS23.

    Thanks!

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

Trying to install PS 24 U (v 24.0.2.219) in a new PC, following the steps posted by Glus, I can't make it to install this version and always install the latest version.

Between steps 4 and 5 I think is my problem because I uncheck the box to download the patch and automatically goes and start downloading/installing V 24.1.0.260.

    Any sugestion?

    Thank you.

Starting an automatic download of the latest version suggests that the installation may be using the "wrong" version of the installer-stub (ESD instead of retail DVD / ISO)

Whichever version of the stub you are using (ISO or ESD), when launched it will look for and download any available update to itself - so a possibility for the trouble is that there's a newer update to the ESD installer already downloaded (and trying to install from the ISO disc image isn't replacing it)). Deleting any previously downloaded updates to the installer-stub should allow the the correct update to be downloaded and used - find them here: C:\ProgramData\Corel\Pinnacle Studio 24

Maybe thats why i couldn't use the download version yesterday and ended up digging the disc out which worked a treat

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

    Thank you Richard.

I tried everything related to your post, but no luck.

I thought that because is a new system will be easy to install the first PS 24 version, but I will wait for a fix.

    Thanks again.

Re: Editing Issues After Recent Update

Here is a patch to resolve slow background rendering in 24.1.

Summary:  Background rendering for some video formats, is very slow.  24.1 is 3x slower than in 24.0.2 or previous.

This patch is designed to apply over 24.1.
