Choppy pictures, when playing my mp4 video files (from Sony AX53 and GOPRO Hero7) from the library and the time line, since Patch 24.1.0.260

Choppy pictures, when playing my mp4 video files (from Sony AX53 and GOPRO Hero7) from the library and the time line, since Patch 24.1.0.260

After installation of the new patch 24.1.0.260 of one week ago, unusual problems with my video project started.  The green rendering bar above the time line became super slow.  Playing the time line gave a big difference between the moment of sound and the moment in the picture : sound and image are not synchronised anymore.  And choppy movie in the viewing window when playing the time line.  Also choppy movie by playing a camcorder file from the library.

An experiment, making a new project, starting with an empty timeline, and just playing a camcorder file from my library has the same choppy problems in Pinnacle 24 with patch, but not in my older Pinnacle 22 : there  the same movie plays completely smooth, like before in Pinnacle 24 before the patch installation.

My camcorder scenes are from Sony AX53 : HD1920x1080 and PAL with 50F/sec (.MP4).  I have the same problem with the video files of my GoPro Hero 7 : HD1920x1080 and PAL with 100 F/sec (.MP4).

When I import a video scene from my old Sony CX410 : HD1920x1080 and PAL with 25F/sec (.mts) and play this vid from the library, the movie play smooth, like the others also did before the patch.

It seems to me that Pinnacle 24 Ultimate with the new patch, is no longer compatible with the video files in Europe of the last 4 Years !! Although it still is allright in my Pinnacle 22.

I tried out many different settings in the Control Panel, but no improvement.  I deleted all the renderings, I emptied the library, I reset the Pinnacle 24 but no improvement.

My system : Intel core i9 7940xLGA2066 128 RAM ; Asus Rog Strix x299-e ; Windows 10 home 64 bit (with the latest update) ; NVIDIA Quadro P4000 (with the newest driver).   I sent a message and an email together with the "ticket" that I received to the help desk, but no answer yet.

Can anyone solve this frustrated bug ??

What are your project settings when you move your files to the time line? Are you adding 50 or 100 f/sec to a timeline of 25f/sec?

Re: Choppy pictures, when playing my mp4 video files (from Sony AX53 and GOPRO Hero7) from the library and the time line, since Patch 24.1.0.260

Hello Candive !  I add my mp4 video files (HD1920x1080/50p) on the time line of HD1920x1080/50p (wheel left above the timeline).  In the control pannel I chose HD1920x1080/50p and also PAL (I live in Belgium/Europe).  In Pinnacle 22 everything is fine, and before the patch in Pinnacle 24 also.  I asked support at Pinnacle and got a ticket.  It was suggested to uninstall all Pinnacle software from the pc, to run a special program of Corel to clean the pc, and to reinstall Pinnacle 24.  I did that today, but still have the same problem : very choppy library scenes, choppy when playing the time line, but when the green rendering bar has finished (takes minutes for one scene !! and rendering is ON in the control pannel) looks more smooth when playing the time line.  I feel very unhappy with this, on my super fast i9 computer, because before the patch everything was fine !  I made several projects of one hour with a mixture of my 3 cameras : GoproHero7+Sony AX53+Sony CX410 and it was fine with a good result.  Library is not bumpy when playing mts files from Sony CX410 (HD1920x1080/25p)..

What version of ps24 was installed when you reinstalled.  My guess would be the latest version equivalent to the downloaded patched version 24.1.0.260, which has the problem.  You should ask them how to install the previous version, or restore from the backup you made before installing the latest patch.

Hi Starfish, I concur with acsscott,

Your best bet is to go back to Corel Support to obtain a previous version or request a hotfix. As for my own experience, I just shot some 4k at 50 fps and 1920x1080 at 240fps on the weekend with my DJI Osmo Action. Hitting "play" on the clip either in the Library or Time line I find the playback reasonably smooth. But if I want to scrub the play head (move it manually), I need to wait for the preview render to complete (brown bar turn green) before the choppiness smooths. This can be very slow. This is with version PS24.1.0.260. It sounds like you are having problems with just hitting the play button and your computer specs are better than mine!

Re: Choppy pictures, when playing my mp4 video files (from Sony AX53 and GOPRO Hero7) from the library and the time line, since Patch 24.1.0.260

    Hello from Belgium !

The helpdesk of Pinnacle suggested me to delete all Pinnacle programs, to scan my pc with a special link, they sent to clean my pc of all pinnacle products,  to  download Pinnacle 24 from a link they sent (of course their new version 24.1.0.260).  But no improvement.  Now they blamed windows 10 for the disfunction.  So I had to run "System File Checker" from windows 10 :  First I ran "dism /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" in "cmd" and the answer was "no component store corruption detected"..

Then I ran "sfc /scannow" and the answer was "found corrupt files and successfully repaired them".  I shut down the pc, restarted the pc, restarted the Pinnacle 24 (new version), imported a new videoscene HD 1920x1080/50p PAL (mp4), but still NOOO improvement : very bumpy & choppy playing the scene from the library, and when I put it on the time line : choppy, but better after disappearing of the green rendering bar above the scene : then much more smooth, but ... that takes so much time to render for one scene !!

The next suggestion of the helpdesk of Pinnacle is : "You should contact Your local hardware expert and get checked Your pc" : what is a very weak answer of them !! My pc is totally ok.

I was a Pinnacle fan since the Year 2002, starting with Pinnacle Studio 8.  Pinnacle Studio 12 was my absolute favorite : that program was always working and a loyal companion You could always trust upon.  Pinnacle 22 had his problems, but was not bumpy at all ; and The first version of Pinnacle 24 was perfect to me.  Indeed I'll  ask the helpdesk for a new link that I can reinstall that one.

I would ask Corel help desk for a link to the previous version of PS24, and post it here to help others.  I have just been clicking "NO UPDATE" every time I start PS24.  Turning off automatic update checking does not stop checking in PS24.

I did just that recently. Here’s the response I got...

Thank you for contacting Corel Technical Support.

Sorry to inform you that we have only the latest updated version of PS24.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.”

Funny and sad at the same time.

Increase their customer/user base by giving away 10K or 20K copies of PS24 for a $1 or $10 each on humble bundle, then install a patch, break it, and then don't support it by fixing it or un-rolling the patch, just tell everyone it's your computer?  Just crazy.

    Hi Starfish:

I am one of the one with PS 24 U, having different types of problems, also in the slow process of cleaning up my system for all Pinnacle Studio versions.

In one of your posts above, you mentioned that Pinnacle Support gave you a "special program of Corel to clean the pc",  it is possible to share that program for all of us removing and reinstalling PS 24.

I let you know that I am using "RegDelete", old application to clean up the registry, but in my case up to PS 23.

    Thank you.

    Completely agree.

Even if I am one of the one getting several extra copies for a low fee for relatives working in the same field.

Pinnacle Studio Information is a great site for "stuff" regarding the software. The site provides the link to the current RegDelete which includes PS24.

    Hello from Belgium

Here is what was first adviced to me :

"After this, download and run this tool:
    http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Studio_24/RegDelete_PS24.exe
    # Choose All products and hit clean
    # Run again and choose User Registration and activation data and hit clean.
Now temporarily disable the virus protection software then re-install Studio 24 using the stub given in link below:
    https://www.pinnaclesys.com/en/landing/download/

But after doing all this, got still the same problem.  So it didn't help me.  Maybe it can help You ??

    My specs are : intel-core i9  7940x  4.3 GHz   128 Gb RAM

Motherboard : Asus Rog strix x299

Nvidia Quadro P4000, updated with the latest driver

Windows 10 Home edition 64 bit

    I use this pc only for Pinnacle editing.  Cameras : Sony AX53 ; Gopro Hero 7 ; Sony CX410 ; Sony FX7.

I have no problem playing .mts video files (from Sony CX410) from the library and from the time line (these video scenes are HD 1920x1080/25p) with PS24 Ultimate, but big problem : choppy pictures playing the library and the timeline from Gopro and Sony AX53 scenes (what was fine with PS22 Ultimate, and PS24 before the patch 24.1.0.260).  Also no problem playing the included video from PS "The time is the limit" with PS24 .

I have no GoPro or Sony videos to test. Is it possible for you to upload short samples of native footage from both to the cloud?

What settings are you using on the GoPro Hero 7, if you can let me know I'll try it here, also do you have a previous version of PS on the same PC as the copy of PS24 that you are having problems with?

I use a hero7 and hero8.  I always film 4k 60fps.  I have no choppy playback in ps23 or ps24, but I have not installed the 24.1.0.260 patch, and don't  plan on installing it.

Is there a way to turn off the install update message box when I start ps24?

    Yes it is.

When you open PS 24 you will get a message letting you know that an update is available..

You decide if you want to update or not.

    News from Belgium

I have uploaded an mp4 video file (C261) from my Sony AX53 camcorder and a mp4 video file (GH010678) from my Gopro Hero 7 , You can try with, and I also uploaded a videoshot from my smartphone of the screen of my desktop, playing the library in Pinnacle 22 U : smooth, but Pinnacle 24 U after the patch : very bumpy !!! of a seal, that I filmed with the Gopro Hero 7 :

     https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ahwrk0JJTwZLiDeVNj50gI-k-lVk?e=x2PKY6

My settings are PAL(as I live in Europe) and HD1920x1080/50p in the Control pannel, and in the control pannel also with the positive affirmation of using the settings of the first clip on the timeline, and left above the time line (after clicking on the wheel) choosen also HD1920x1080/50p PAL.

Re: Choppy pictures, when playing my mp4 video files (from Sony AX53 and GOPRO Hero7) from the library and the time line, since Patch 24.1.0.260

Tried playback of the two provided files on my general-use system (ultra-small desktop with i5-8250U CPU and the Intel graphics only). Both files previewed OK in the library or on the timeline; the 100fps one (GH010678) resulted in the project timeline being set at 60p, but still previewed OK with the timeline set at 50p.

    acsscott:
I cannot find a way to turn the message off.  It happens every time I open PS and I have updates turned off.

The continual repeat of the "update is ready to install" message may be because the 24.1 patch has already been downloaded and is available to be installed. With update checking set at "check manually", finding and removing (moving elsewhere or deleting) the patch file might stop that message reappearing?

On my system, the patch was downloaded in a folder under the user's AppData folder - such as C:\Users\<Your user name>\AppData\Local\Corel\PinnacleStudio24. Here, there were two XML files along with the patch file - my suggestion would be to move all three files elsewhere so Studio's up[date checker doesn't see them.

    Regards,
    Richard
