I'm lQQking to buy a new monitor and wondering how much the monitor matter for editing? The 1 I have my eye on is an 

HP 32s 2UD96AA#ABA 31.5" LED Monitor  60 hz 1920 x 1080, 1200 to 1 contrast. It does mention that it is not a widescreen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can afford it, purchase a 4K monitor.

I would think with the resolution it supports, that it is  wide screen. That resolution is 16:9.

Like Saby, I'd say look for a 4K monitor. 

While I agree with Saby and Tony, budget is always a constraint. Within your budget range, consider monitors with a higher native resolution. They increase in this order:

• 1920x1080 (FHD)
• 2560x1080 (UWFHD)
• 2560x1440 (2K QHD)
• 3440x1440 (3K UWQHD)
• 3840x2160 (4K UHD)

Also, since everything is smaller looking on a 4K monitor, you can cram more stuff on the timeline and see it at one time. Text/print will also be smaller along with desktop icons. But I like it and really can't go back to 1080HD monitor for main work.

So last night when I was shopping for monitors I noticed I can by a 43" 4k tv for less than a 4k 32" monitor. I'm willing to bet there's a good reason people aren't using tv's instead of monitors. Also what would be a good refresh rate? I see most are 60.

Unless you play games, 60hz is fine.

43 inches, it's too big to watch from a short distance. Pixels are bigger and you would notice them.

If you are sitting at a normal working distance from a 43" or larger TV then you can't take the whole screen in without moving your head, and you will find it a bit overwhelming. You are also undoing the principle that you can't see the individual pixels. Monitors will generally have a better choice of inputs (Display ports rather that just HDMI) and the screen should have better colourimitry and less or no "dead" pixels.

I have a pair of 28 inch 4K monitors side by side, but tend to work with a program in each monitor, or in the case of Studio, I use one for full screen preview and the other for the program

Your post is a good addendum.  No worries. 

I never thought of using 1 for preview & 1 for editing. I might just have to buy 2. Are the 2 you're using the same make & model? Also, I can't decide weather to go with straight or curved. I never used a curved one and not sure how it would be or if it would be feasible with a duel monitor set up. The other thing I'm seeing is these extra wide ones but they lQQk like the screen height is smaller. 

Have you thought about the impact this might have on your graphics card?
