    Split Screen Editor not Opening

I have Studio 23 Basic.  I made up a film clip which includes some split screen frames and saved it.  Later I inserted the clip into the main film.  Now I want to edit the split screen section.  So by using the ‘Open in Sub Editor’ command I have worked backwards until the timeline shows the ‘Split Screen Template Creator’ clip.  However when I right click expecting to open the ‘Edit Split Screen Template’ I find it is not shown.

I have another clip inserted into the film which also has a split screen section and by following the steps above I am able to open it in what is called the Montage Template Editor.

As far as I can see the only difference between the two clips is the one I cannot open has titles in it.

Any ideas as to what I’m doing wrong or what might be happening?  Thanks.

When you say "clip", you mean project, right ?

Re: Re:Split Screen Editor not Opening

I'm sorry, I'm not terribly good with terminology.  Yes I mean project and it is saved as a movie.axp file which I then subsequently inserted into the timeline of my main film.

However if I clear everything and bring the movie.axp project file in question onto the timeline on its own (where it is titled Split Screen Template Creator) and right click, the 'Edit Split Screen Template' does not show.

The source for this film is mp4, perhaps that affects it?  Many thanks.

Would you make a screen capture of what you describe ?

Here are two screenshots showing the difference when using 'right click'.

Not sure why I can't put two screenshots on but here is the other.

What if you double-click the template ?

I had tried that and it opens in Sub Editor or Sub Movie as it is titled.  Screenshot attached.  Many thanks.

Can you replicate this problem using the same or different clips? Different montages? Because on one hand, the process works and on the other it doesn't. The question is why? What is different between the two examples. You mention titles in your original post. If you create another split screen with titles, does the same thing happen? You have to isolate the problem.

Re: Re:Split Screen Editor not Opening

So I did a quick and dirty split screen and I can confirm that it is related to subsequently adding a title track in the sub editor. Once this is done, the system locks you out of the split screen editor. In the sub editor you can delete the title by right clicking and selecting cut, but you can not delete the title track. In fact you can not delete any track in the sub editor and I think this is by design. So in a nutshell, if you want to change the split screen of a nested group with a title, you will have to start all over again.

Going forward, my recommendation is not to add titles in the sub editor but create your split screen and then add the title in the main editor. That way you will have access to the split screen editor template.

Re: Re:Split Screen Editor not Opening

Thank you very much for your time on this and applying some logic!  I've now tried deleting titles & see exactly what you are saying.  I was getting fixated on the film source, being mp4, and trying to avoid starting again.  What an excellent forum this is.  Thanks again for your help & advice.
