They removed the patch because everybody has problems with it. Better to wait.

Madboy,
Hopefully the next patch coming out this week will help you. I don't have detailed information about the original problem. with DVD burner not recognized. Apparently we had one file which was probably not compatible with every system and causing Studio to not be able to render a DVD project.

OK. Thanks for letting us know something's in the works! When there's
silence it makes me wonder if enginers are still trying to figure out
what is wrong. Will watch for the post on this thread I guess.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
Hi everybody,
The new Studio 11.1 beta version is now available for download. Just click here.
This patch can be installed over a Studio 11.0 or a Studio 11.1.5175 BETA installation.
You can also install the patch if you installed the Studio 11.0 R3 Service Patch and it will fix the "DVD burner not found" or the rendering problems of R3
Thanks for all your feedbacks.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
I think I will wait. seems like this is already a "Beta" version....
look here: http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/14431.aspx
seeing as R3 didn't see my burner and introduced the writing final file problem... I will wait!
Ok I rolled the dice, didn't go to "Vegas", although I took a gamble, I downloaded the beta patch, applied it and now I can render and write final file - but it still doesn't see my DVD writer.
back to square two I guess!

Patch applied. Made no difference unless rebooting would have helped.

It worked for me. After installing it said "Windows needs to re-start" and I did.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
I applied the BETA patch as well (skipping R3 altogether), and the results were mostly negative.
The recorder is found, rendering completes in the DVD mode, but when going to burn the data, the program immediately gives something like "recording failed - please try again". Went to create an image - the ISO option appears to work, but the image cannot be burned to the disc with Nero. Nero claims that the image is for a CD format, not DVD. Appears that studio generated an incorrect image. Created the VIDEO_TS folder and burned that with Nero, the result was good. So, it looks like burning still does not work, but at least there is one possible output format with which a DVD can be made.
Please let us know if there is a definitive fix in the works, or if there is a way to get this software returned for a refund. I don't see why anyone should spend hours trying to test Beta software that barely works after we've paid the asking price for a "finished" product. I'm still within 30 days of purchase.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
This is also my problem. I just received and installed Studio 11 Plus Ultimate yesterday. I created the project with no problems, but when I tried to burn it, it does not recognize my burner. I have a NEC ND-6500A and the drivers are the most current. I upgraded from 8 (yeah, I know, what in the world have I been doing for the past several years!!?) so I thought perhaps it was because 8 was still installed. I removed 11 then removed 8 then reinstalled 11. Still does not recognize burner. I tried saving as an ISO (which I know for sure another program will burn) but, although the "Create disc content" is available, nothing happens when I click it. Ironically, the "Instant DVD Recorder" packaged with the 11 DOES recognize the burner drive, but it does me no good since I cannot create the disc content to then burn in it. I have Windows XP Professional 2002 Service Pack 2. I could make an MPEG, but I've tried it twice and there were a couple of glitches in the file (the last time, it replaced some content with an earlier title three or four times throughout the show -- I gave up and went to bed at that point). It doesn't really do me any good to have all the neat little tricks if I can't output it. I'll look forward to a solution.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
I got Studio 11 Ultimate to recognize my DVD burner. Bottom line: The burner became funtional when I uninstalled InterVideo WinDVD 5 trial on my PC. Here are the steps I took for those that might find them helpful:
Notes: After installing Studio 11 Ultimate upgrade (S11U) this week I also discovered my DVD writer was missing from Make Disk. In addition when I started Pinnacle's Instant DVD Recorder I saw my DVD burner but when I clicked the Prepare button under step 2, Select Burner, the program crashed. I checked burner operation using Windows Explorer and Adobe Encore and found the burner to be functioning correctly in those applications. Because this was a hardware issue I performed a cold boot (shut down the PC completely, wait 10 seconds, restart PC) instead of a warm reboot using Windows Restart after each adjustment to my PC configuration. Always use a cold reboot with hardware issues to reset hardware which doesn't usually happen with Windows Restart. I am running Windows XP Pro.
- Before installing S11U I made sure to uninstall all previous versions of Studio using the Uninstall option in Studio's Program Group Menu under Windows Start menu.
- I went to Windows Control Panel > Add Remove Programs and removed any other remaining Pinnacle Studio programs.
- I installed S11U using the 3 DVD disks in the upgrade package in this order: 1st - Studio 11 Plus; 2nd - Bonus DVD; 3rd - Studio 11 Ultimate. Although it is recommended to install the Bonus DVD last it was in the S11Plus box so it seemed logical to install it after S11Plus, and I didn't see the install order on Pinnacle's support page until afterward.
- I Started S11U and discovered DVD burner was missing.
- Using Windows Device Manager I uninstalled the DVD burner, did not remove the DVD burner drivers, verified the burner was not listed in Windows Explorer, performed a cold reboot. Note the first driver for my DVD burner is Pinnacle Systems Cdrdrv.sys, modification date 2/10/2005. The burner was restored on reboot but was still not recognized by S11U.
- I opened Windows Control Panel Add Remove Programs and searched for programs that I could remove that might be using the burner. I started with programs that I use least which as it turned out was an old trial of InterVideo WinDVD 5. After uninstalling that program and performing a cold reboot S11U recognized my burner.
- I created a S11U project and burned it successfully.
It seems obvious, in my case, the problem was one application installation, WinDVD, keeping S11U from using my burner even though my previous version, Studio 10, worked fine. It is going to be tough for Pinnacle to create solutions for missing DVD burners where the problems are generated from 3rd party applications that don't play well with others. The question with my installation is why did Adobe Encore and Windows Explorer recognize the burner but not S11U... perhaps it was the order of installation of the programs. I hope this information helps to unravel this issue.

Good article backlot.
I think if people understood their Hardware a little better it would make their life a little less stressful.
The blame game is easier.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
Add the NEC 1100A to the list of R/W DVD writes that S11 can not find. I have updated S11 with the latest patch and still no luck - where do I send the BeLarc file? After reviewing other threads, I tried starting in safe mode and still no drive. Jerry

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
One interesting post from an other thread regarding the missing burner:
"After months of patches and experiments I FINALLY figured out how to get my missing drives in S11 back....not sure why, but here is what worked for me: (I'm using Windows XP)
1. Download wnaspi32.dll from nero at http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html
2. rename old aspi file in /windows/system32 to wnaspi32.dll.old in case you want to restore it
3. then copy the nero file to the /windows/system32 folder and reboot.
You may want to use the aspi layer check program, to check for a valid aspi layer after replacing the file above....use the aspichk.exe file from this download: http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2_exe.htm. (The adaptec wnaspi32.dll file here didn't restore my drives so don't install this aspi software, just use the layer checker utility)."

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
Thanks Bertrand, I missed that one when I was looking for solutions - I will give it a try. (Just found: "
Try uninstalling Pinnacle Instant DVD writer. That brought my DVD writers back.") I'll give that a try first I think
Followup: Uninstalling Instant DVD writer did not help; following the directions Bertrand quoted appears to have solved the problem. Now to try and burn!! Jerry

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
Used fix mentioned by bvregille and here are my results:
Condition: Can't see my external DVD burner Sony DRX 510UL in the make movie drop down settings screen. My internal DVD burner shows up. With internal DVD burner showing, can create movie but can't burn. Fails to burn on both options but, when created using Studio in the third option can burn the DVD on my external Sony using NERO.
-
Downloaded and installed Jacque's file from the Adaptec site after renaming former file. Rebooted. Ouila! The external Sony showed up in the drop down selection list make movie setting screen, but still can't burn the DVD. Can create the movie as before but it fails to actually burn in all cases just as before.
-
Installed 11.1 in Safe Mode. Rebooted (probably should have given Studio a test drive in Safe Mode just to see what would happen but didn't). I am now back to square #1 to the original condition stated above, Sony DVD burner doesn't show up. Looking at the Adaptec check utility, the file from Adaptec still appears to still be present.
I have 2.99GHz processor, 300GB Drive D Pinnacle processing drive exclusively for videos, 2GB RAM, XP SP2, and lots of patience, but it's running out. NERO is installed and perhaps that's a factor ... whatever.
My v10 was solid ... no problems and now this very time consuming dead end. I think they should have had a version for VISTA and a v11 for XP. <---my two cents.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
This replacement of the wnaspi32.dll worked for me as well. My old version of the file was from Adaptec. v4.1.1 from 2002.
Now my drives are back and hopefully Studio 11.1 Ultimate will work correctly!
I have Windows XP, SP2.

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
Lastest update on this. Drives are visibile to Studio 11.1 but it fails to burn whether I do it in one step or do it via a prior creation of the TS_FOLDER. I have both a Sony DVD and a Pioneer DVD drive installed. Both are non-functioning so it's not just the individual drive.
Stay tuned...

Re: Make DVD Disc not working Studio 11 Plus - No disc writer device found
I tried deleting the two DVD writers using the Device Manager and re-booted. Amazingly I was then able to write to the Pioneer drive but didn't get any sound on the resulting video. That may be another issues so I'm now doing a test with a smaller video to see if I can get the sound back using PCM.
If that works I'll test the Sony DVD which is my 2nd drive.
