    Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

    Hi all.

Unfortunately Corel does not support Studio 15HD, so my only hope is this forum.

Suddenly our Studio started showing a message "Work of the program "Importer" was stopped".Windows is looking for solutions to this problem" (Windows 7 Professional). This message is shown when switching to Import tab. The Studio does not answer after that, so it's impossible to capture any video (say, VHS).

Does anyone know what this Importer.exe file should do and why it could stop working?

    Thank you very much.

    Tamara.

    Tamara,

How many times have you had this problem?  I had that message once or twice some time ago.  I restarted the computer and Pinnacle and it worked fine.

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

I do sometimes have this problem with Studio 14 when importing. I just click on ctrl + Alt + Delete and start the task manager to end the program. Once it closes I just open it up again and it works for me. Sometimes I just close the window for the Importer and it closes without any problems too.

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

    Tamara,

What applications/programs do you have open when using Pinnacle?  What type of input box or media are you using with Importer?

When I import I have found the best success when I shut off everything that is not necessary.  I use msconfig.exe to prevent loading of Start items, shut down my local network and Internet, disconnect any USB devices that I am not using, etc.  This may be overkill, but I don't like believing that for 6 hours I am importing a VCR tape and it turns out that nothing is there or is 'garbage'.

Thx. I tried what you recommended - no use ;( After switching to Import tab the Studio does not reply at all and so there is no chance to close tab/window. I also opened the Importer.exe up again - some tiny window named Import appears but does not change the situation..

Try repairing your Studio program. Maybe something got corrupted.

    Done what? Repaired the Program?

Does anyone know what this Importer.exe file should do and why it could stop working?

IMO, Importer EXE File was introduced with S14/15. Neither of which I've had.

There isn't an Importer EXE File in S12.

IMO, Importer EXE File  either Runs when you Launch Studio (Studio EXE) or When you Import anything into Studio from your PC's Internal/External  Hard Drive & External Devices such as Capture Devices & DVD Drive, etc.

IMO, there have been problems with Importer EXE not working Posted, since S14/15 were first launched. See THESE Threads..

One of them might have been that there were 2 instances of Importer EXE Running in TaskManager. Applications Tab. Ending Process for one of them possibly fixed it.

Forum Member jjn is the Forum's S14/15 Expert, having produced 2 Tutorial books with Content DVDs.

Sending him a Private Message requesting help in your Thread might bring dividends.

    Tamara,

You need to give us more information to work with.

What are you trying to do? Have you been able to do it before and it no longer works? What equipment are you using? What other applications are running on the equipment besides Pinnacle? etc.

Ronjin, I'm sorry for a long silence - was looking through the solutions to similar problems. Unfortunately, still haven't found one(

    Answering your questions.

I'm trying to switch to the Import tab in Pinnacle Studio 15HD to get access to import options. As fas as I see now, if I'm working with the resources on my computer's hard drive I can avoid importing at all and simply choose them and add to the project. But to copy my videotapes, I need to use the Import tab which is no longer available. I used to make digital copies of my videotapes before using my Studio 15HD and all was OK until now. I can not say I made any special changes into my computer OS before it stopped working. Just was using it for my everyday needs such as Microsoft Office and Internet surfing.

I'm using Oldi Computer with 8Gb RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3550 CPU, 3.30 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti. Windows 7 Professional (Service Pack 1) installed.

I tried to close all other applications before starting Pinnacle, but it didn't help.

Also I read different threads on this forum that were found after making 'importer exe' search including this one: http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/507840.aspx

There I found out that I'm not alone with my issue and the users still have no solution to the problem :( Accept this one:

    pintosal:

    I had a similar problem.

After many unsuccessful attempts at uninstalling Studio 15 and restoring my XP/SP3 I eventually found a solution.

The problems seemed to start when I did a Windows update and various MS fixes to .Net were installed. As the Importer crashes suggested feedback to Microsoft, it got me thinking the cause is due to .Net

So, I uninstalled Studio 15  and also uninstalled Microsoft .Net frameworks and related updates. Then I cleaned the registry using RegSeeker and then I re-installed Studio 15. This install also re-installed .Net 3.51 and now the Importer is OK.

I tried reinstalling .Net and the Studio (for the 5th time already) and had no result - after opening the Studio it shows the same error: "Importer.exe has stopped working" and crashes right away. Sometimes it only behaves this way only after I try to switch to the Import tab.

I'll be glad to answer any other questions that can help solving my issue. Thank you for any ideas beforehand!

    Tamara,

Thank you that helps.  Also please identify the media/equipment/software that you are using to try to "feed" images into the computer for the Capture process.

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

The thing is that I don't even achieve the stage where I'm supposed to choose the media for import.. The Studio crashes with no equipment yet plugged into the computer and no media chosen... Simply Studio opened - and as soon as I switch to Import tab (we have three main tabs in the menu in our Studio, this is the left one) I see this error message.

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

Sorry, guess that I did not phrase that correctly.  I am trying to understand the whole environment that we are trying to get to work.

What media/equipment/software/ect. do you want to use to feed the images into the computer?

    I've re-entered the Thread.

As previously Posted, I don't have S14/15, both of which might have an Import rather than a Capture Tab. See my screenshot for S12.

    1) Post a Screenshot of your S15 User Interface (Like mine). How to do that HERE

     2) Are you trying to Capture Video or Import it from your PC's Internal Hard Drive or an External Hard Drive ?

ADDED  - Just read the thread you linked to;  http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/507840.aspx , where I posted. So, looks like I don't need the requested Screenshot.

Looks like Avid never fixed it in S14 & 15, before they sold Pinnacle Systems to Corel. Corel no longer support S15.

If you're Capturing Video from a Capture Device, you could try Microsoft's  basic AM Capture Program that's included with S12, anyway. You might have it for S15. Go to Start /. All Programs. See my 2nd screenshot for S12

Save the Video to your Hard Drive & Drag & Drop it into S15 Video Timeline..

Screenshot (Click on it, to Open it in a New Window & then expand it to view).:

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

    Tamara,

I have been thinking about your problem. I Know that Studio 15HD works in the Win7 environment and I use it for Capture nearly every day without problems.

I want you to reinstall Studio 15. I can already hear you saying that you have done that – but please read on.

I have a HP desktop and Lenovo laptop that use Win7 Pro. They each run Pinnacle Studio 15HD. Several months ago I had several problems and went through multiple reinstalls of Pinnacle, but the problems persisted. I discovered that when you do a removal of the software, many Pinnacle folders are not removed. And when you do a reinstall of Pinnacle and it sees these folders, it may skip over them and not replace them. This means that if there is something in one of those folders that causes a problem, it will still exist after the reinstall. This is also true of the Registry – if there is something in there causing a problem, it will not be resolved unless it has been removed.

There is a web-site (http://declic-video-fx.com) containing a lot of helpful information. I plagiarized some of their information and made a removal/reinstall sequence that has worked for me. The indented items shown in blue are my additions. I suggest that you use each of the following steps for your reinstall:

Go to http://declic-video-fx.com/Studio-1-15/FAQ.aspx to find “22-How to re-install Pinnacle Studio”. Open it and click on Regdelete to find “REGDELETE S7/8/9/10/11/12/14/15”. Select and download “REGDELETE S14.EXE” (also works for version 15).

22-How to re-install Pinnacle Studio First do a clean uninstall :

    1. Uninstall Studio with the Add/Remove Programs tool in the Windows Control Panel

    2. Restart your computer

2a. Run ‘free’ Ccleaner software. Select Registry; Scan; Fix; and click Yes for Backup Changes to Registry. (This will give you a saved copy of the Registry before any of the following changes are made.)

    3. Run Regdelete

    4. In the menu select your version of Studio

    5. Press the Clean button

    6. Close Regdelete

    7. Open Regdelete

    8. Now in the menu select User registration and activation Data

    9. Click Clean

    10. Close Regdelete

    10a. Run MSCONFIG.EXE and de-select StartUp Items

    10b. Restart computer

10c. Do a Search to find all items containing “Pinnacle” particularily the folders

10d. Rename the folders (e.g. I renamed the Pinnacle folder still in Program Files (x86) to “Pinnacl-old”. There were other items in My Videos that also needed renaming). This is so that they are not recognized when you re-install.

10e. Restart computer and do a Search for Pinnacle for a final check that all folders have been renamed.

    10f. Restart computer again.

    1. You can re-install your version of Studio, the registry is cleaned-up

11a. I loaded Pinnacle only and not the Plug-ins or Bonus items because I have no need of them for transferring VCR tapes to DVD formats. I wanted Pinnacle in a ‘plain vanilla’ version.

Whenever you are going to run Pinnacle, I suggest that you open MSCONFIG.EXE and de-select StartUp items (this eliminates items from being loaded automatically that are not required for Pinnacle). I also suggest that you never run Microsoft Task Manager while using Pinnacle (based on some problems that created for me).

Do you now have a workable tab for Capture now?

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

You won't believe it (at least I still can't), but even this DOES NOT WORK :((

I've made all the steps you recommended and had such a huge hope that this RegDeleteS14.exe and renaming the old folders would help. Unfortunately, no result...

The most weird thing is that it all worked well for such a long time. I now I suppose I have no ways left to make it work again ;( Anyway thank you for trying to help me and my Dad.

As usual, any ideas are welcome.

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

    Tamara,

Please provide more info on what you mean by "The most weird thing is that it all worked well for such a long time."  something like:

"I have been using Studio 15HD Capture mode to import (analog or DVD) tapes from (camcorder model or VCR player model) (directly using Firewire cable or using Pinnacle MovieBox 510 and USB cable). I had been using this set-up for about (3 months or 10 months or ?) without problems.

Then on about (3/15/14 or date?), I could no longer access the Capture tab in Studio.

I have tried (restarting computer, re-installing Studio, etc. etc.) and none of these has resulted in a working Capture tab.”

Re: Import problem (Importer.exe stopped working)

I have been using Studio 15HD Capture mode to import analog tapes from the Samsung DVD VCR Player SV-DVD 3E using Pinnacle 500 and USB cable. I had been using this set-up with the very first Studio I tried (Studio 10) and since year 2012 with Studio 15HD without problems. I can tell exactly when was the last successful tape captured if needed, it was somewhere in autumn 2013. After that I did not try to capture any other tapes for a while. Then about half a year ago I started to see this error message and could no longer access the Capture tab in Studio 15HD. I have tried restarting computer, re-installing Studio (before that: running CCleaner program and fixing all the bugs in the Registry, preventing loading of Start item using msconfig.exe, running Regdelete and making a Search to find all items containing “Pinnacle” and remain them all),  shutting off everything that is not necessary, shutting down my local network and Internet, disconnecting all the USB devices, opening the Importer.exe up again by clicking on ctrl + Alt + Delete, repairing my Studio program in case smth got corrupted - and none of these has resulted in a working Capture tab.

Colour, I've opened AM Capture program and saw two devices there (see screenshot attached): one is my web camera, and the other unknown to me. I had my USB Pinnacle and the VCR-played connected and playing the tape, so I tried to choose the other device (thinking it was the one I'm looking for), but AM Capture shown an error (see the 2nd screenshot) and could not load or capture any video. So two reasons - either the device is not my Player (but then what else? I have no other media devices connected to my computer), or it's something wrong with capturing (particularly with the filter, as the error message says). The video image from the web camera is loaded into the preview (main) screen of the AM Capture, while if I choose the second device I see a message and the screen is empty. These are the results :(

My S15 is on DVD disk. And I reinstalled it from the disk. I did not try to download the installation file from the Web. Do you think it's worth trying?

    ronjin:

    Tamara,

Nope. We had to switch to S15 from S12 because of changing a computer, and we had Windows 7 installed on the new one, so S12 could not be used under Win 7.
