    DVD Creation Crashes

    Hi

I am having trouble creating a DVD image.  I have created a project from HD footage and with a single menu.  The project is about 2 1/2 hours in length.

The rendering seems to work OK but then when the DVD image is created, it appears to hang every time.  (Not necessarily at the same % done).

Last time it did it, I noticed a dialog box saying that NGStudio had terminated (I think).

I have successfully made a Blu Ray image from the same project, but am really struggling to get a DVD out of it.  Unfortunately, the people I am doing the DVD for only have a DVD player.

    Any ideas?

What version are you using?  A new patch (17.2) has just been issued to correct some export problems.

Unfortunately I am using the latest patch. :(

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

Are you creating an image without burning the disc?  If not, try that.  And also change the location of the folder where the image is being created.

And what settings are you using  for creating the disc?

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

I have tried creating an ISO image and also a folder image and the hanging/crash is the same.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

I seem to be able to get a successful export (once!) by setting the project settings to PAL Widescreen (SD) but when the project is set to HD 1920x1280 I cannot produce a DVD.

I am sure this is a recent problem as I have created lots of DVDs in the past.

Is there supposed to be  any difference in the final output between setting project to SD or simply exporting as DVD with project still set as HD?

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

Chiming in here with a similar problem. Also running the very latest 17.2 patch. I immediately tried to separate making an image and burning. In my case I get to 87% of creating image. My disc project has 3 movie projects/chapters and is 2 hrs 15 min in total length. First and last chapters are 1080p m2ts. Project export is dumbed down to 720 x 480, and output is NTSC wide screen. Output is DVD format (not AVCHD the default). This is not much good without being able to create the final output product.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

What is your timeline project set to - HD or SD?  I found that by changing my timeline to SD rather than just exporting in SD, I managed to export eventually.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

Output was NTSC Widescreen that crashed. I did not try SD. I have already started a BD 1440x1080/60i image this morning based on your success there.I can make a project draft this way, but really must get to DVD output for final production. This is my first project since the upgrade to v 17. I've run into similar problems in older versions of PS. I may have to remake the project in Sony Vegas Pro to get it out the door.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

When you say 'Output was NTSC Widescreen', where did you select this?

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

It is still exporting, so trying to recall from memory, but it was 1) in control panel, project settings. a) based on 1st frame or b) choice of format, and 2) In Studio Exporter dialog, on left side: Export type: Disc, Settings, Type: NTSC wide screen, Don't recall if I had to pick the ADVANCED button here??

Looks like my BD export just hung at 3% of total. Has not "stopped" or "crashed" as before... now it's just sitting there with no progress advancement. This is worse than the DVD creation.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

Yes the NTSC widescreen choice was in the ADVANCED dialog from within the exporter dialog. You can choose automatic, or a specific format.

I'm going to try it all again after deleting render files in control panel, allowing it time to render the project, and then see if I can target the DVD output once again.

This is certainly one of the most frustrating applications I have.

I changed the settings for the timeline from the button on the menu on the left just above the timeline.  That seemed to work for me.

I've included a screenshot to show the button.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

Thanks for posting what you found. Looks like you are working with a movie project. Mine is a disc project containing 3 movie projects on the time line. I fired it up before leaving the house this morning, trying the delete render files first, and then image output to DVD format. If that has failed when I return home I will give your solution a try, and will report back regardless of findings for both approaches.

I was working with a DVD project.  I'm just at work at the moment so found that screenshot in the Studio 17 manual!

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

I have tried with no success using various settings, on a fairly simple two hour video. It crashes regardless with whether you are creating an image or cutting a disc. Cutting the movie down to a 50 minute video did no good; it still crashed.

What did work was making a 5 minute disc image with the same settings that crashed the longer video.  I am using version 17.2.0.246

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

Ran home at lunch to check on status, and again, the Windows dialog "program has stopped responding". No crash per-se.

My backup plan is to export the individual chapters to files, and then use disc authoring tools from some other brand of software from these chapter files. I can find no combinations of settings that will export NTSC Widescreen DVD disc image in PS 17.2, and have spent days trying. I give up. PS 17 disc authoring is just dead as far as I can tell. Based on previous PS experiences, no one who can do anything about it is listening, and a fix may never come.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

The developers are listening and I expect a fix will come, hopefully in the near future.

Have just installed the 17.3 patch so will see if that fixes it. :)

I have attached some screen shots to show the settings I used.  The output hung at 93% - during the 'Creating disc image' phase.

    Re: DVD Creation Crashes

I'm waiting for your Disc creation dialog screenshot.  As I understand it, you are trying to create a standard DVD from a high definition timeline project that is more than 2 hours long?

and a view showing where the export got to when it hung.  It had been at 93%  for an hour when I stopped it this  time
