Re: Studio 17 is now available

@ plemmens - Thank you - I missed that "import previous projects..." item in the file menu - was only looking at file types to open.

That did the trick - more or less.  It brought in all the clips in the project, but none of the markers I'd set.  On a different file, one without markers, the import keeps all the clip trims and razor cuts as well as audio level changes.  Transitions, Picture-in-picture and panning/zooming still images also imported correctly.  The only thing I've found missing so far is markers - only 2 or 3 hours to redo.  Not a bad price to get a big job onto a different computer where someone else can do the editing and free up my main computer.

...Also with Lightworks, thing about if you are a plugin hound... no Red Giant Looks (I love this) and other inexpensive plugins. I got it for 40% off, which made it dirt cheap. I couldn't pass it up. But it is daunting get a grip on it. So, you have this software that will handle ProRes. But then you will spend a long time getting comfortable with it. I will "force" myself to use it, but if I have to do something in the here and now, PS16U to the rescue.

I had basically one day to get this out for the youth group at our church. I had to get some footage and photos that day, and basically get it out for the next day. Lots of Montage, Corrections Editor, Effects Editor, overlays, etc.. I would not have been able to do this with Lightworks. Especially since they have no Montage!!! Wink

    One Life Youth Conference.

Of course, if I had more time, the timing would be better and a few other glitches. But I had hours to get this out.

That looks good - how did you do the titles at the beginning (with the rotating cross)?

I placed a Title over the video track (rotating cross). In the Title Editor, I chose my font and size and placed it where I wanted in the video. I opened Motions>Enter and selected 03 Page From Infinity. That was it. I used a standard fade (pulling the corner) when on the timeline to fade it and the video it overlayed out.

Re: Studio 17 is now available

Will there be an upgrade offer to Studio 16 ultra users?

Re: Studio 17 is now available

    There already is one.

Click the buy button on this page for an upgrade from any previous Studio version (starting with version 9) to PS17 Ultimate.

There is a similar offer for PS17 Plus. A upgrade to PS17 basic isn't possible.

Reason IMHO: The basic PS17 version lacks quite some features that are present in many previous versions such as 15, 14 ...

BOX? I use it for my personal files.  Just like PS16.  It seems like a good idea until you find out that there is a max file size of 1 GB.  This limitation renders this feature useless imo.

Re: Studio 17 is now available

Sorry if these have already been addressed (I'm late to the party, after a long absence):

    • Will S17 install along side earlier versions?
      • If I install S17, can I still run S15, or S12, etc.?
      • Can I uninstall/reinstall S17 without damaging the earlier versions also installed on my computer?
    • About Blu-ray
      • If I purchase "Ultimate" with Blu-ray capability, will that also give me what I need to WATCH BLU-RAY MOVIES?
      • I bought an OEM version of a Blu-ray player, and I cannot watch Blu-ray movies on it without installing extra software, most of which seems to cost $60 or more.  I should have known better, but I got excited by a sale and forgot about that little detail.
      • I'd like to be able to simply watch a purchased Blu-ray movie on my PC, and wondered if Studio 17 Ultimate would magically fix that for me.
    • What, no green screen?
      • I might need to reconsider this purchase.  What fun is it to buy the boxed version of Studio if I can't add to my green screen collection?

    Hi Dennis.  We've missed you.

Yes, S17 will coexist with all prior versions.  And I have installed/uninstalled S17 without doing (too much) damage to earlier versions.  The only possible problem I have had with that scenario is losing 20 Cents montages, but that could have been user error.

I doubt it (unless you can put the BDMV stream from the disc onto the timeline?).

Don't you already have enough to cover a football field?  Big Smile

Almost.  I'm still working on the endzones.  Stick out tongue

Oh, and thanks for the Blu-ray response.  I was hoping Studio Ultimate would include the licensed CODECs required to play Blu-ray movies I buy or rent.  In hind sight, I guess I should have paid extra for a "retail" Blu-ray drive instead of the OEM item.

with the stipulation that I have not done this myself,  its my understanding that VLC can be used to play BluRay with the addition of some (2 ?) files and codecs ...

(I have a $30 BR player -- so no need to use my PC's BR burner to play commercial disks ..)

    Thanks for the tip.

I have a couple Blu-ray players at home connected to televisions, so I don't "need" to watch them on my PC.  But when I saw one on such a great deal, make an impulse purchase.

So far my searches have been to no avail.  It's been really hard to find a free player that works, and I suspect that's because of licensing issues.  All the other players I found have been trial versions that expire after a few weeks, and cost more than I wanted to pay.  Since I don't really have a need for this, I dropped it and moved on with my life.

    Maybe I'll check out VLC.
