    No sound

Hi.. Some AVI files that I load in Studio 10 to convert to a DVD movie load fine (while loading, get a message about the audio being "extracted", and sometimes a message about the audio being "split"), but thay play back with no sound (the original AVI files plays perfectly in VLC, Windows Media Player, ArcSoft Video Converter, etc.).  I can find no setting that changes this lack of sound.  I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Studio with no luck.  It's happens with some but not all AVI files that I load (most, even ones that play fine, give some message about the audio being extracted).  Is there some Studio setting that I am overlooking?   This started fairly recently and happens with some (but not all) AVI files produced in other programs.

     Thank you,

Do you have the latest patch installed (10.8)?

Are your AVI videos were captured from a DV camcorder or from another site? (youtube, etc).

    Is your audio card updated?

Is your video Standar Def or High Def?

    Re: No sound

R_Vera... the videos were captured with a JVC video camera.  They are captured in MTS format, and converted to AVI in ArcSoft Video converter.  When played (from same directory as they are used by Studio) by VLC, Windows Media Player, etc., they work perfectly.  Some play with sound in Pinnacle, some don't.  Those that don't have sound had the "extracting audio" message come up while loading.  Since some work and some don't, I don't think the audio card or patch (I believe all up to date) has anything to do wuth it.  Re-installing Studio 10 didn't help.  The problem SEEMS to occur while loading into the timeline.

     Thanks for your interest.

have you tried by converting it into Mpeg-2?

    Re: No sound

I'll try it, but that's avoiding the issue.  Why do some keep the sound file but other's lose it on loading into Studio?

R_Vera.. thank you for the MPEG2 suggestion, it worked.  There was a slight artifact, but easily fixed.  Movie of my grandchildren in a play now fine

    Thanks again
