I have several VHS tapes that I want to convert to DVD. I want to combine some of the family gatherings off the VHS tapes and burn them onto a DVD or 2, depending on the size.
I'm afraid of running out of space on my computer because I will need to save the images from those VHS tapes on my hard drive in order to be able to have access to them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this?

If you capture  your VHS tapes into AVI you will be looking approx 13 Gb of space used for a 1 hour clip, If you capture it in Mpeg-2 format you will use less space on your hard drive (maybe over half of the AVI format). If you have an extra hard drive in your computer you can save the videos in there for future use.

Thanks for your reply. I am planning on purchasing an external drive to store the data, I think that will be my only option. I'm not familiar with AVI vs. Mpeg-2 formats. Does capturing the data in Mpeg-2 format cut down ont he quality?
