Motion tracking - with (4 point) Corner Pinning as an option as well as single point tracking.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
I´d like to see a full integration of midi controllers. Right now Liquid just offers the possibility to receive midi messages from the controller, but there´s still no way back to the motorfaders of the controller.
AND:
To make it even better, the NEXTGEN might have a "midi learn mode" - so that you could use your midi controller also for tasks like color correction or effect control.
Frank
P.S. Is there anybody out there who transfers all the suggestions of this threat into a structured wishlist that could be sent to pinnacle. ?? I mean - if they would pick up a big part of the ideas of this threat - They really could create a KILLER APPLICATION

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
To be able to add SUBTITLES as part of the DVD authoring process.
If subtitling features similar to those of Subtitle Creator and DVD Workshop could be incorporated within the new Liquid editing program it would speed up the job of subtitling a video. However since subtitles are probably a Pro- requirement rather than a Consumer one, this facility may not be seen as having a high priority!?

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
I came to Liquid from Studio 9. In S9 much of the detail work is done for you. To wit, HFX transitions are dragged and dropped between clips with no need to worry about creating leeway. It would be nice to have an "Easy Drop" option for adding transitions. I spend too much time going back and adjusting the leeway because it turns out the transition I have selected is longer than I thought.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
Liquid is not an editor that 'does thiings for you'. Please, please, lets not dumb it down any more. If you don't like adjusting the leeway, make sure that when you detect scenes you increase the amount of leeway added at the outset. Also, you can change the trransition length. I think it would be better to use Liquid as intended rather than try to encumber it with any more of Studio's 'home helps': we already have the EZCapture to help Studio users ... and that shows just how limited the Studio way is compared with the Liquid way of doing things. EZCapture doesn't have to be used of course (I don't even have the icon available for use), but the code does and is, and what does that get in the way of?. Come to think of it, capturing with EZCapture is probably the reason why you don't have ther leeway you want.
And yes, I too came from using Studio to Liquid: I see no point in using Liquid if you want it to work like Studio. Use Studio.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
Mike
I strongly disagree with the use of the term "dumbing down" to describe features that are a convenience. Is an automobile with an automatic transmission "dumbed down" from a car with a stick shift? I don't think so.
You are correct that Liquid "does not work that way," but the discussion is about how the next generation should or should not work. You are correct that I often use Liquid as tho it were another version of S9 with added features. This will probably be the case for a while as I am still learning the Liquid program. I also use the EZ Capture feature because it fits the way I store my video captures and keeps them easily available to either the Studio or the Liquid program. And I admit that I am pretty much a "point and click" computer user. I seldom use keystroke commands which makes me a pathetically unskilled amateur in some peoples eyes. But my focus has always been to get the video on the DVD so I don't like to take too much time learning the "best" way of operating the editing program. (That is a fault. I admit it.)
One last thought: I bought the Adita tutorial disc for Liquid. The tutorial is based on LE6. There are many steps illustrated in the tute that do not exist in LE7. Some drop down menus and options have been eliminated. Clearly, LE7 has been dumbed down to some extent in comparison.

I you're racing a car, you wouldn't want automatic transmission. But after the race, in heavy traffic, ya - you bet. There's a time for convenience and a time for twiddling and working with manual settings. Can both exist in the same package. Not with cars, but with NLEs - sure.

When you capture do you have handles? That could help you. I use about 15 frames for handles. Also if you select after playline and hold down control key you can adjust all transitions on timeline at once.
I would like if you could select after playline and apply timewarp to all clips at once or apply timewarp to track itself.

When I set up my timeline I usually put the clips on and allow 40 frames of leeway on both ends because 90% of the time I just use the crossfade of two seconds duration. However, I occasionally decide to put in an FX transition. A lot of them will fit into a two second gap but sometimes they don't. It would be nice to have an "Easy Drop" option when I decide to deviate from my usual method.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
When you apply a transition of any kind in Studio, the right hand clip is, in effect 'slid under' the left hand clip so that the overlap is the transition length - whatever that happens to be. This means that the overall length of the clips on the time line - the movie length - is reduced by the transition length. You can verify this for yourself. And there is an article about it on my website.
In Liquid, that doesn't happen - when you apply a transition, the length of the resulting movie is not reduced along the timeline. That is the reason for using the leeway method. It's the way Liquid works - and the way the pros want it to work. It puts you in total charge of how the transition is applied - it doesn't have to sit 50:50 across both clips (leeway must be present for 'offset transitions of course). This enables you to control totally the way a transition appears.
To introduce the Studio way of doing it - even as an option - would cause more trouble than it is worth because of this 'shortening' - which would happen on only the 'transitioned' timeline track and would create an out-of-sync' situation immediately with the other timeline tracks..
It is to maintain synchronisation between timelines that Liquid works the way it does. That is why I say to introduce this into Liquid - even as an option - would be dumbing it down.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
I totally agree with Mike. I do a lot of stuff synched to music and get the cuts synched first then add any transitions afterwards. Going from Studio to Liquid (Edition) was a godsend, as all my timings were maintained after adding transitions in Liquid

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
Well, this is buried pretty deeply, but here goes...
I would like to see the playline stay put whilst dragging items onto the timeline, such as the cross dissolve or even the 2D editor. Gets irritating having to re-align the playline after applying a filter.

Yes, we have requested this several times and suggested to the developers how it might be implemented. Absolutely we need this feature.

I think if you hold down the shift key while dragging the timeline won't move. (I think )
This just came to me today. It would be nice if there was a timer for each project so we know how much time we spend on a project. .

That was how it worked in Discreet Edit* and that is exactly what I have suggested to the developers.

Most of my work is for Multicam. I would like to have the option of using different video formats in Multicam.
Also to keep Smartsounds.

An auto sense feature to reject some people that spammed Liquid and lead it to die.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
I'm beginning to sense that the Consumer/prosumer market is one that Avid is ready to distance itself from, especially considering the restructuring. In a restructuring, the first thing you are advised is to refocus on your core business, sell off the experiments and use the capital to rebuild the mothership.
I doubt, listening to the Liquid/Studio devide, and more importantly the Liquid / Media Composer leap comments, that the strategy of migration will yield dividends worth the monetary investment.
Pinnacle is probably a better fit for another company in the mid level video business. No doubt it would florish under Sony or Adobe.
To go public with such long range plans is so out of character for Avid. This entire NextGeneration balloon may be an enticement for a new owner...

1 Ability to select the clip from which the sound is taken in a multicam sync list.
2 Ability to show waveform of clip sound quickly and without changing properties.
3 Ability to render farm - Ibelieve that;s the correct term - have rendering in action on one computer whilst continuing working on the same project on another.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
a. I would like to see Project background rendering, so that rendering would occur in the background on sequences that are not on the timeline and need to be rendered in the current open Project. b. Also even having a timing option so that one could even render needed sequences in Projects that were not open at the time, eg. tell the NLE to render project A sequences at a different time while I move to work on project B now. Sorry if this is a duplicate. I just didn't want to read through 4 pages of stuff.

Re: Features That You Would Like New or Old to be in the NEW NLE
I would like to see another programme added to the stable, sold seperately or as a higher priced bundle perhaps, but one that would edit multitrack sound while you watch the video. Pro-tools is an option and an excellent programme but is very expensive! (In this country it is nearly $3000 with the DVtookit option, and that is way too high for most of us)
On the Mac you have soundtrack Pro (I'm not that fussed on FCP as a video editor, but the Mac's Soundtrack Pro is great) And of course with Adobe you have Audition.
The new programme would need to handle an Xsend from Liquid with Liquid being about to import the improved audio again.
I know that Liquid can handle a lot of audio tracks, but it really gets messy with a timeline full of audio, voice overs, FX etc and it is not a very pleasant way to edit sound when you are used to editing in dedicated multitrack audio programmes.
Liquid is great, but would be even greater with a dedicated audio editor alongside it.
