After installing the software and trying the DVC90 connected to my Directv DVR the 'capture' would work; it did spend time showing a recording was in process.  However, no file in the directory I specified was created.  There also didn't seem to be any way to 'view' what was incoming through the USB 2.0 port.

  Even if I had no incoming video it would seem that a 'black' file would be created.

  I checked the source and cables connected to the DVC 90; the composite cables worked just fine into a TV input.

  What must I do to get this to work?

Do you see preview while recording, if not there's problem with the installation or driver of the Dazzle DVC90. What is your PC specs.

  No preview was shown.  Below the preview window was displayed the 'capture' time which did proceed to the end-point I'd specified for the test.

  PC specs: HP Pavilion dv6700; Vista 32 bit  including all OS updates; Intel Core 2 Duo T5550; 3GB RAM; C: 131GB 54GB free; D: (data) 100GB 95GB free; Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS; external HP DVD rewrite drive.

  I checked control panel: installed was Studio 9 and Pinnacle Hollywood FX.

  Should I install it on my newer Pavilion? (Brief specs: Model dv6t, Windows 7 64 bit home; 6GB RAM; Intel Core i5; SSD drive with C=105GB 19GB free & P (data) = 29GB 9GB free.

  As regards my Win 7 system, any peculiarities to installing the Pinnacle software on it?

AFAIK Studio 9 doesn't run on Vista nor on Win 7
