What is missing in Avid Studio?

Photo grab is just one thing that comes to mind. I know there is a work around but the key word there is WORK. The project folder was also nice, again, a work around but...thought I would just start a list. If you have any more missing "must haves" please list them in this thread. Who knows, maybe someone will pay attention and put out a patch.

Where are all the HFX's in AS trial?

Re: What is missing in Avid Studio?

Timeline-write click on track- everything of LIQUID – especially EXPAND LEVEL, and TEXT INFO

Audio import, export CLASSIC ROUTING, as LIQUID

Betreft: What is missing in Avid Studio?

5.1 sound at export file.  I like to make parts of my project complete before making an dvd/bluray for better control/overview.  I use the separate files to edit a disc.

Why don't we just say Liquid and leave it at that. Big Smile

"Photo grab is just one thing that comes to mind. I know there is a work around but the key word there is WORK."  From the first post.

Have you looked at the snapshot feature in AS?

Re: What is missing in Avid Studio?

The snapshot feature does not allow you to capture the total screen shot with the effects that you have produced, just an individual frame from the source that you select. Check it out. Try to capture a screen shot with a title overlay in the snapshot feature won't happen.

    The Storyboard view.

Re: What is missing in Avid Studio?

    1. A tickmark in the Library on scenes/clips that are used in the project's timeline.

    2. Ripple transitions.

I am aware of there being workarounds but those need more time and/or mouse clicks.

The snapshot feature does not work off the timeline. To take a snapshot of the timeline you have to do it in the Export dialog. See attached. This also gives you the option of exporting an image sequence. It takes a few more keystrokes but is a very powerful feature not available in PS.

I am missing something.  How did you do it?

Because it is not needed in PS. When you use the "tool" snapshot in PS, you get the content of the TL of all tracks at the selected position. For me producing a snapshot via the Export dialog is just a workaround.

I can't see how you do this. I've read the manual and Image isn't even listed as an export format, so there is no mention of being able to output a series of images in one operation.

    What am I missing?

Re: What is missing in Avid Studio?

I stand corrected. Never make assumptions. You cannot produce an image sequence but that also means eliminating two key strokes to export an image. Just park on the frame you want and export. No need to mark in and out. BTW, Media Composer has no snapshot feature either, you must use export to export a still but if you make a range in MC (or Liquid for that matter) you can export an image sequence. Liquid on the other hand does have robust snapshot tools, one for the timeline viewer and one for the source viewer. That probably should be added to MC although the export route is hardly difficult.

To avoid confusion here is the steps to use in Avid Studio to ripple transitions:

Add the transition you want to riple, once between two clips/scenes/photos on TL.

Richtclick the transition and select Transition- Copy  from the rightclick menu.

Select the set of clips/scenes/photos you want that same transition to be applied to.

Rightclick one of the set of selected clips/scenes/photos and select Paste from the menu.

I don't know exactly what makes edius 6 so fast editting & rendering, if it is the true 64bit or they utilize  the CPU/GPU more efficiently so there is no is no waiting to see what a F/X or transition looks like, it is in real time.

Re: What is missing in Avid Studio?

    - Multicam editing

    - Quick Transition tool, like in Liquid

    - The possibility to have source and program monitor at the same time.

    - Bring back the multiple sequences.

More professional tools, in future versions.

    - Eventually, P2 support and XDCamEX support.

    - A timewarp, time-remapping.

    - Secondary color correction.

    EDITED:-

Two items missed from Pinnacle Studio

    • The PIP GUI  - ie being able to reposition/resize with mouse and not have to use settings options on right.
    • tickmark in the Library on scenes/clips that are used in the project's timeline.

being able to see images above as well as below (an other option for SOLO)

    Hello all

I've been following this thread with much interest. It appears in summary, that AS should be able to do, or is expected to do, everything that every other NLE can do, combined. Big Smile

There is a SOLO button in the AS effects editors. Bottom right of the screen. SOLO is the default so if you want to see what is below you need to turn it off. I would have preferred the opposite.
