    I won't install an RC.

Especially when we are talking about the OS itself.

George, you started discussing Vista, not me, I am only giving you the tools, not forcing you to use them, the real SP1 should be out in a couple of months for all the european languages it is said.

However, the install and uninstall process for the rc works well, all your old settings are saved, I have made some tests, this because you have to uninstall the entire rc before installing the real SP1.

And, isn´t you the cloning discs expert George ??? Big Smile

    Re: My new system II

I will wait for the final SP next year.

I will do some tests more when I will find the time.

The laptop is primary for my wife but I can occasionally edit on it. And from the time the DX10 patch will come then I could rely on Liquid as well there.

    Sorry.

That is for the english version, the multi language one is said to be posted on windows update about 6 - 8 weeks after that the first version is released

    Re: My new system II

Our Fujitsu Siemens is in Greek.

I always buy the english versions but that came with Greek.

So I guess I will wait some months more.I will do some tests though.

When I will finish the 19th show I am editing now, I will copy all the 4 (1 hour) EZ captured clips at an e-SATA and I will copy the project files at Fujitsui as well.

I will load the big project and I will do some real tests then. Everything will be at the e-SATA except from the project files. I will let it render again to see how fast it is going.

I am writing from the laptop while it is rendering. My choice of going with an e-SATA was wise.

I transfered the Reels of the project(only those) at a folder I created within the disc and within another folder named Liquid and there Media and Render.

Pointed Liquid there (all the usual things to do) and has recognized everything and working now like a charm.

It is a 45':06'' so it is going to take some time I guess to render wbut I don't see any reason why I can't work here even at big projects. Party!!!

Take a look at this also. Very interesting.

But the most important thing is that at the same time Liquid renders I have open the Paint.net, Internet and I am listening to a music radio on net.

And Vista sees Liquid's audio processor as a separate VU meter!!!

I think great things could come for NextGen.

This is a very capable system in contrary with what I was thinking before some time.

    Re: My new system II

Just to let anyone who is after a cheap and a VERY fast SATA2.

I bought it today (or better I exchanged it with the 1TB WD My Book) for 159 Euros.

It's the fastest drive I have seen so far. Plus I have it on external enclosure not designed for so large volumes and not even for SATA II.

And while it has UDMA Mode 7 capabilities(Ultra ATA/512),

Now it works as UDMA 6(Ultra ATA.133), It will be even faster when an appropriate enclosure will be out to support full SATA2.

It's the new... Samsung HD103UJ 1TB (with 32MB Cache). Or F1. And it is like one.

It is 44% full. 400 GB. It has 15% fragmentation and it score up to 112mb/s while it is working!

I am really impressed not that I was expecting it. I just wanted it for backup purposes and to work with the notebook sometime by e-SATA.

    Re: My new system II

The problems I have had with Liquid and DX10 card at the laptop seems to have changed.

Instead of Green Flash output I get now some jerky transition but the dissolve from the one clip to the other is now visible.

I will wait to download the full Vista GR SP1 and will update here.

The card on the laptop is a 8600GS 256 (up to 768).

This is probably going to be one of the highest scores of what Liquid can do.

I am pushing it to the edges but still holds good enough.

I am at almost 1300 elements and I have still 6-7' to finish the show.

1306 cuts with 1300 elements with not a single crash on a 41'.30'' timeline.

    More to follow.

This is a new record for Liquid and I doubt that it can be done THAT stable with any other NLE.

I wish Next Gem could do this. I am not sure again. I will miss that Liquid's outstanding capability. of timeline editing.

A 47':27'' in less than 14 hours.1535 elements on timeline. Not a single crash. Of course from that time and then things are going a little bit slower.

Nothing serious but you have to have your eyes wide opened in such huge timelines.

1524 Slices. More than 900 shots. Something like 3'' for each clip.

I did that experiment to see how far Liquid can go.

I copied my final timeline for this week of 43':23'' 8 times!

Liquid needed no additional rendering and now the timeline contains 5 hours 46 minutes and 43 seconds.

It plays perfectly and I can scrub very fast in any place that I want.

Those are 11976 elements on timeline and more than 5000 cuts.

    Re: My new system II

Well I thought that Liquid can't do more than 6 hours but I was wrong.

In a short time I will upload an 8 hours and more timeline of HDV for the doc I am doing for 8 months now.

The final doc will be around 30-35 minutes. I have other 2-3 shootings to end.

That test is a very rough cut just to see how beautifull Liquid handles HDV at timeline.

I hope NextGem could do the same

    Re: My new system II

AGAIN THIS IS TO SEE THE OUTSTANDING CAPABILITES OF LIQUID AS FOR HDV.

THE SMOOTHNESS IN EDITING AND HOW EASILY YOU CAN DOWNLOAD TO TIMELINE ALMOST 9 HOURS OF IT.

EFFECTS GO SMOOTH AS WELL. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW MUCH FASTER WILL BE WITH AN 3870X2 1G INSTEAD OF MY 1950 GT.

I did the download of your "HDV WITH LIQUID" from your 'new' system and discovered you encoded it with WMV 9 codec, which means I won't be able to see it because I have WMV 10 and don't want to go back. Crying

I uploaded it at Vimeo as well as .mov but it needs 40 minutes to be converted.

I will post back the link in a while.

I think you could see it with WMP anyway.

    HDV with Liquid

    Vimeo doesn't like the file.

But here you can have it Timay as QT file or both.

Hi George - just a word of warning - I've heard that Liquid doesn't work with the dual-GPU boards such as the 3870X2 so make sure you can return/exchange if you go that route.

Also, I just replaced my X1900 for an X3850 and it works very well with Liquid under Vista 64 (probably not under XP just yet). Also - the OpenGL support with the X3850 is much better (and much faster) than with the X1900. This only matters with HFX in OpenGL mode, but I also used a couple of 3D modeling programs (and AE) that are thanking me for this update Wink.

One thing you should know is that I didn't notice much of a performance improvement in Liquid with the X3850 but I'm still testing it so I won't know for a few days...

    Cheers,

    Thanks Steve.

I might go for a 10.000 rpm drive for system then. Smile

Liquid is impressive with a good system and HDV.
