Greetings, I have a vhs recording almost 2 hrs long I want to put on a disc. There are no natural breaks (commercials) any where. I'm using firewire pass thru cam to pc. When using the logging tool will L7.2 be able to handle this long of a capture without throwing the audio out of sync? The recording is actually 1hr 47min plus. Thanks for any advise or tips!

I've had no problems recording material of this length. It's more system dependent than Liquid dependent. And given your spec's (quad core), I wouldn't think you'd have any issues.

Sorry to bring this back up front; It didn't go as smooth as I hoped it would. I ll use Enditall,  then opened Liquid7.2 (I had the tape set where I wanted to start logging), When I opened the Logging tool it starting flashing with the warning "No Tape". I selected a reel, then changed settings to "Live" and all flashing ceased! Great; As soon as I hit play (vcr) then the digitize button the flashing started up again and wouldn't quit flashing even after I stopped the digitizing. Once I exited out of the Logging tool the flashing stopped but alot of the clips had exclamation marks (I'm assuming they're dropped frames)!  Am I missing some other settings? Should I disable auto incrementing? I also noticed in logging/digitizing control panel a chioce of ignoring dropped frames. Should this be selected? I don't want to screw up anything so I've left the default settings in control panel.  Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated!

First, check your camera settings. Just because a camera has pass-thru doesn't mean it's enabled by default. Second, make sure that the LIVE device is set to input from your camera and not from something else. Third, have the camera running the tape before hitting the digitize button. You should see the tape playing on the capture monitor before you start digitizing. If you don't see it previewing, then your setup isn't quite right yet. If you can normally capture from the camera on tape, then it's likely to be the pass-thru setting on the camera or the LIVE device isn't set to pull from the firewire port.

I use good old reliable WinDV for capturing video from VHS. I also use a camcorder with pass-thru.

It's free, easy to use, and you can set the size of chunks of video that it splits it into.

I don't use Liquid, but back in my Studio 9 days I would occasionally run into an OOS problem. I found that by capturing in 10 or 15 minutes chunks of video the OOS problem went away.

I believe the pass thru is set up correctly because I do see it on the cam's LCD as well as the preview monitor. I'm not starting the digitizing the same time I start the play back of the vcr. I give it some time, maybe 2 or 3 sec's but it's definitely recognized. I have captured from tape before but this is my first analoge (with L7.2) but I have also done this before (with Studio9-12) Long analogue captures in Studio never worked for me (OOS). Hopefully I'll figure it out. Thanks again

That was going to be my next move if I couldn't figure this out. I've used it before on my older sys; I was just trying to keep the new sys with minimum apps. I still would like to know what's up. Thanks for your input Joe!

Even tho a lot of people do use pass-thru without problems, I still think it is worthwhile to get an internal capture card in your computer.  Mine is a clunky old Pinnacle caspture card that I got over six years ago and it still hums along with no problems.  The cables are permanently plugged in and hang out the front of my computer desk so that they are ready for anything I want to hook up.  Very handy, very reliable.
