    Video/sound Out of Sync

I have been using Studio 11.1 Pro since it came out.  I post our church sermons on the church web site and lately the sound is terribly out of sync with the video.  I rip the dvd to mpg file. Then make an AVI file that can be used in RealPlayer Plus to rake a rm file that can be posted.  Studio does make a rm file but the quality is not up to par with making it with Real Producer. So that is why I go that route. I check the mpg file that I rip from the DVD and it is all in sync. I check the avi file that i make from the mpg file and the avi file is out of sync. I'm seeing that the avi file is out of sync because the mpg file has dropped frames.

Any suggestions would sure be great.

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

Well, I just installed Studio 12 ultimate thinking that maybe it might be a fix for my problem, but NO, I still have the out of sync problem.  Its when I make an AVI file from the ripped mpg file the AVI file is out of sync.  I am desperate,  Does anyone Maybe a Forum Person from Pinnacle have an answer

You might feel like you're being ignored and your pleas are falling on deaf ears, but I'm sure that's not the case.

I suspect it's just a lack of good suggestions.  So while we wait for a GOOD suggestion, I have a question or two:

    • What did you use to rip the DVD to an mpeg file?
    • Have you tried using the "Import DVD" option from within Studio?

I'm suspecting that whatever you used to make the mpeg file uses some codec that Studio doesn't really like (even though it doesn't choke completely), and that's what is causing Studio to produce OOS output..

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

Hi justaviking, I am using Studio to do the ripping to an mpeg file.  So basically using everything is pinnacle.  I use the AVI file that I make with Studio to make a real media file. Studio makes one but its not good quality like real media plus makes.  but I cant get that far as the avi file is not in sync.

I have made good avi files in the past. But its been like 2 months ago that they were good, I didnt notice they were out of sync untill someone drew my attention to it. So I started doing checking.  I checked the mpg file and it was good. then checked the avi file and that was bad.

It was a strange thing. I used to use Nero to rip to mpg. then Pinnacle told me that I could do that with studio, and was glad as it saved me a lot of time. Didnt know I could do that with studio. But now this problem

Maybe someone can answer with the solution.

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

Is it possible to stay with the .mpg format and create your RM file from there ?

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

Not really, I need to edit the mpg file first.  But I'm noticing something strange.  The mpg file that I rip from the DVD flickers when played. I wonder if that has something to do with the off-sync problem. Like maybe lost video frames.  I may have to go back to Nero to ripp my DVD.

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

If I understand this correctly, you used to have sucess and now you don't ? As time goes on, things get added that run in the background process.

If Nero doesn't solve your concerns, you could possibly try a few other things.

A defrag of your Hdd might help.

Some Hdd housekeeping as suggested in THIS post sometimes clears out some problems.

Running a program such as ENDITALL sheds lots of the unnecessary process that cause editing problems.

Copy the disc to a folder on your desktop, and rip the disc from there.

These are just some random ideas that I would probably try. Big Smile

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

Thanks for the suggestions. However disk is not fragmented.  I am very careful to keep my HD defragmented.  I may try the suggestion of copying the DVD file to my HD. I will try this before I use Nero again.  The nero process worked good, but used much more time to do what Studio did in such a short time.

Back to NERO, it works fine but takes a lot longer to rip.

    Ted,

Sorry it didn't work out for you, and good luck with Nero.

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

I am having this problem from a video I import from the Memory card of my Caon HD camera.  The video looks great, the sound sounds great, but they are not synced up. About 3-4 seconds off. Video finishes before the audio has completed.

    Studio 12 Ultimate

    Vista Ultimate

    8GB RAM

    2.5 TB HD space

    Dual core Intel

    Fast video card

Have you tried using Windows Explorer, or whatever its called in Vista, and drag the files directly to your computer ? Then import them with Studio from there ?

I had a similar problem.  I fixed the sync issue by unchecking the "Enable full-resolution Preview" under Video and Audio Preferences.

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

I have the same issue with .avi files imported from two different sources:

    1) Sony DCR-TRV320 (video shot in digital mode and imported using Studio)(720x480, DV, 29.97fps)

    2) V.I.O. POV100 (imported via SD card inserted directly into computer)(640x480, DivX, 30 fps) & (720x480, DivX, 30fps)

On one 3 plus hour video from the POV100 the sound is OK at first but at 3 hours the sound is off by 12 seconds.

Both of these files are in sync in Classic Media Player, VLC Media Player, Windows Media Player and Windows Movie Maker and on my laptop using some freebie Ulead (VideoStudio9 SE DVD) software. I’ve gone back and viewed files I used clear back with my Studio v8 and they are also off with current Studio v11.1.2.5231.

I don’t know how these files can be in sync with all of these other programs but not in my current Studio version, without it being the Studio software that is at fault.

I attempted tlwarnkes fix but that was of no help for my issue/s. I guess the next step is un-install/re-install?

    Any OTHER suggestions?

    HP computer

Windows Vista Home Premium / SP2

    Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180@2.00GHz

    6.00 GB RAM

32bit OS (hey, it works for me)

    Re: Video/sound Out of Sync

OK. Pain in the posterior, but I found a solution.

Since I could not edit the .avi file, without matching the audio track before each split clip or clip deletion, I created a new .avi file, from the original, via "Make Movie". Sound track then matched up to video track. I deleted the original  file and edited the new file. Wastes a lot of time, but it is a solution.
