Since the last few days I am the happy owner of a Canon HG21 ($700.00 from B+H) It produces significantly better video than my former
Sony HC1. Part can be explained that the HC1 is only 1440x1080, yet when burned to BR AVCHD, the HC1 HDV video looked pretty close to
the original HDV tape from the HC1.
However the output from the HG21 looks just AWFUL when played on a Sony BR player and the player tells me it is only 1440x1080 regardles of
the settings in P V12. When burning the HG21 output via a different software to a red laser DVD, it looks excellent and the DVD IS 1920x1080!!
So burning original AVCHD 1920x1080 video on Pinnacle V12 to AVCHD looks like hell and is only 1440x1080. First converting the HG21 output
to MPG2 HD improves that by a lot. The problem seems to be the forced re-encoding when making a AVCHD BR disk. I use 17Mb having found
that my Sony BR player stutters at the beginning of a disk when reading 24Mb.
What to do? Does V14 have the same problem? Can a different codec be used?? Any recent developments ?, I know that this seems to have
hapened to others.
This has NOTHING to do with AVCHD compression etc, even with re-encoding V12 should not do so much damage. As
mentioned, when NOT using V12 the HG21 video looks great on my BR player. Yes, I have the last upgrade.
Thanks
