Chrome Xe running only in demo mode under Vista

we have Chrome Xe running on Vista but will not recognise the dongle and so only runs in demo mode.

Chrome Xe is not supported on Vista. You have to use XP.

Re: Chrome Xe running only in demo mode under Vista

Is there an possible way around this? It seems to be just a security issue with the dongle.

What we have is the latest Mac and we did run Xe on XP. However the performance was greatly compromised as XP would not recognise more than 2G RAM and a couple of the processors. It made capture impossible - it was just too much.

So we installed Vista. Xe talks to the Xena board fine, it plays back fine and updates all the projects from previous versions.  But stuck in demo mode.

Incidently Final Cut works with having the Kona drivers. We may end up sending Xe back.

Liquid 7 HD also works fine on Vista but of course does not see the Xena board.

I tried to run Chrome Xe under Vista Ultimate 64-bit. All works fine, but also only in Demo mode. This is because there are no 64-bit drivers for the dongle available. So I went back to XP-32 bit. Here you can add the following switches to your Boot.ini file: /3GB /USERVA=2700

This is the way how Avid Media Composer runs with 2.7 GB when 4 GB (or more) are installed.

I suppose with Chrome no longer supported there's no chance of 64-bit drivers being developed. We'll try that RAM fix. If it doesn;t work out we will bite the bullet and move over to Final Cut. We thought we might wind up doing that but not for a few years.
