Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

I installed Studio 14 Ultimate Collection on my Vista Ultimate machine (only a couple of months old) and started Studio. The program starts up with no problems and loads the sample project successfully. The problems start when I press the (1) Import button on the top left of the GUI  - when pressed the message "Loading Studio Import..." is displayed for a few seconds then the entire GUI interface in grayed over and does not respond (hangs forever) anymore. Any idea what might be causing this problem (my system information is below).

Re: Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

    Things to try:

    1. Install Studio again on top of the present installation.

    2. Make sure no other USB is detected (for testing only)

    3. Disable any firewall or Antivirus

Re: Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

I am also having this problem. I have ran a repair and that did not work. Here is what i am seeing so far. Studio opens fine, and i can edit and save projects fine. When i click the import button at the top of the screen it says "loading studio import..." and then that goes away after a bit and the studio window remains greyed out. I thought that studio was freezing up but when i heard the ding sound when clicking i knew that that couldn't be. I checked the task manager and saw that there was a process called importer.exe. When i end this process the studio window lights back up and you are back to editing your video. It looks like the importer is opening but it is hidden somewhere. I just can't seem to see where it is. Let me know if this is the same case for anyone else or if anyone knows what the problem might be.

    Couple of thing to try:

    1. Disable background process or boot computer in diagnostic mode.

    2. Disable antivirus as Mon Roy suggested

Re: Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

This is what I had to do for Windows 7 64 bit

I had problems (importer kept freezing and dropping frames) for about a week and on the phone with support until I found the right guy to fix it.

After you install the program go to the device manager>sound video and game controllers>Pinnacle 710-usb(or the capture device you have)>click on the usb and go to driver and delete the driver.

    Download the new driver from
    http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Hardware_Installer/readmeHW10.htm
choose your capture device and get the Windows Vista 64 driver.
Unplug your usb cord and reboot
install the new driver select repair
plug in your usb cord - the driver will install
then reboot again and you should be up and running...
They will be coming out with a Windows 7 64 driver in a month or so.

I seem to be having the same problem. But i have figured something out. The importer will only open if i don't have anything in my usb, but when i plug something in, it just freezes.

Yes, it is a capture device. Im planning on using it to capture my xbox 360. Its called the Dazzle DVC 100 (the color is black. The box i bought it in was the Dazzle digital video creator plus, or something along those lines).

Are you able to capture after Studio importer open and connect the Dazzle? Have you reinstall the dazzle driver?.

Re: Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

Same issue for me after a brand new download install. Here's some additional information if this helps Pinnacle support resolve the bug:

    • when it hangs, I can recover Pinnacle by killing the following process: importer.exe *32
    • no USB devices plugged in
    • I can import video from other sources, just not via the import function in PS14
    • I've been able to edit, reedit, and make a movie successfully
    • have not tried to reinstall as I don't think that will do much other than burn up my time
    • haven't played with antivirus yet

I'll keep posting as I attempt to isolate the issue. However, seems like an incompatibility with my software.

Re: Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

    Quick Update:

    • uninstalled Studio 12
    • restarted computer
    • camcorder off: start PS14, turn on camcorder; click import: same issue
    • camcorder on: start PS14; same issue
    • However, I noticed that I can hear the audio track through the computer while import is hung on my machine; I can't hear it until I click on import

I'll keep posting as I learn more.

Re: Studio 14 Ultimate Collection - hangs when the import button is presses

    Ok, another update:

    • rebooted machine
    • uninstalled PS14
    • rebooted machine
    • reinstalled PS14
    • opened PS14
    • clicked on 'import'; same gray screen and it hangs
    • could kill using task manager as stated before
    • closed PS14
    • turned on camcorder
    • opened PS14
    • clicked on 'import'; same gray screen and conditions already mentioned
    • evaluating background processes at this point but I'm open to new ideas

This is great, brand new software, a deadline to produce a usable video for training and I can't import the video off the camera.

    What other ideas?
