    unresponsive

I'm starting to hate this program! I just upgraded to Studio 14UC....sounds good right?

It is constantly unresponsive! I've been working on a project and now I can't get it to do anything!

There are green areas in the timeline bar that won't go away, the new motion title has changed it's icons to have a black background and I can't open them to edit them, there is no preview in the preview screen, I dont have time to restart my projects every 15 mins!

HELP! Looks like great features but something is obviously wrong!

Am I the only one having this issue?

    Anyone know why?

    Re: unresponsive

I doubt that your hardware is the cause of this. I have a hunch that your other software maybe causing this. Try a clean boot.

    Re: unresponsive

yeah, I wouldn't think it was my hardware either... my computer is really good (see profile) and brand new

I've restarted the program several times, I've restarted the computer several times.... I've rebuilt the project once.

I've made an iphone video so you can see what it's doing...

    - all the title screens (all motion of course) are blacked out, though you can still see the titles in the square icons

    - double clicking the titles to edit them just shows a black screen in the editor when it even does that...in the video it just brings the hour glass of doom and then the file tags itself "not responding"

    - pressing play doesn't show any preview

    - clicking around the timeline doesn't show any preview.

     The video is here: www.ChantelarStudios.com/beta/IMG_1430.MOV

    Re: unresponsive

Try a new video driver and use msconfig to filter out startup items and other services just to isolate the issue.

    Re: unresponsive

I've updated the video driver.... now I'm playing with msconfig... turned off all startup that wasn't essential...will let you know

    Re: unresponsive

ok.... in msconfig... what would I be looking for.... thing seems to have helped....

*program takes forever to go from dark green to light green to orange... if at all.. on the time line

*goes "not responding" at the drop of a hat

*can't get in to edit motion titles (either freezes or I can't see the text to edit it)

    Any other ideas?

    Re: unresponsive

I think I'll have to get a refund from Pinnacle and go somewhere else... I've started another project (since the other has become non-responsive)  and now, half way through, it won't even play...just a black screen in the preview and it won't render what I've worked on so far. Started another project doesn't always work by the way.... this is sad.

I'm losing money as I continue down this path. Please have someone address my issue ASAP

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'll see to it that this gets reported back to engineering. I wish I could have been more helpful.

Why don't you just have Engineering contact me to schedule a time for a call to figure out what's wrong and fix it

    Re: unresponsive

I do not have direct contact with engineering, I can only send them reports through email. Have you tried contacting our support line?

    xpesrx,

I am having the same problem and so are others see topic: "studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems"

I have been working with AVID tech support since soon after my install on 10/10, and I have install/reinstalled 4 times.

At this point I think it may be tied to my graphics card which is an ATI HD4670 with 1Gb DDR3 RAM and maybe my power supply which is 350 Watts.  What type of graphics card do you have?

I'm looking at your specs, and there's one thing that bothers me. Where do you need 12GB of RAM? Indifferent I've seen a few issues with Vista 64 and Studio 12 going bonkers with more than 4gb of ram. I'm not sure if this is a limitation in the software or the OS. But if its possible (to test) if you could pull out 4 of those RAM chips, and see if get things running better. Grasping for straws.

    Re: unresponsive

Just a suggestion, but your power supply at 350 watts seems to be way down on what I think you would require for your setup.

Try going to some of the  'power supply calculator' sites for a check - not forgetting additional drives etc.

I have a 350 supply on my old single core Athon 64 3200 but with all the extras I should  be using a 450.

    Re: unresponsive

We use the system for more than Pinnacle... that's why I need 12GB of ram. The computer is in a recording studio and is used as a DAW. Can't take out the RAM.

My system was built by PC Audio Labs.

They've checked to make sure I had all the hardware set up that I needed....supposed to have? What are power supply calculator sites? I'll run the checks

    Re: unresponsive

Without using the Motion Titler at all, do you have the same trouble with Studio 14?  Is that the #1 wreck-all jinx?

Do you also have Studio 12.1?  Does it yield a better result?

The money spent on S14 is gone.  If you get it back, peace be upon you.  It may take Pinnacle weeks or months to issue a corrective patch.  Since there is no "known issues" posting in the Knowledge Base, I'd not wager it will come soon or be comprehensive.

Meanwhile, the money you lose by persistent problems is far greater than the monetary investment in the software.

Your system and needs may be ample enough to support a more advanced software with stronger support.  Consider the Adobe, Edius, or Sony suites, or perhaps even Avid's AMC,

I'm not sure, though, that any NLE works best if the PC is simultaneously used for other applications.

    Re: unresponsive

Putting 'power supply calculator' in the search bar of IE tuned up several such sites. Picking one at random and running a check on my system prompted my previous post suggesting a possible power supply issue.

However the site suggested by MarcP gives a different answer where my computer is fairly comfortably within the power supply spec. Things may not be as bad as I first thought but I still think it is worth doing a few checks since you have a higher spec computer with the same power supply as mine.

    Re: unresponsive

PSUs are not created equally, I'm no expert but some PSUs are true rated and some are not. True rated PSUs are capable of holding their ground, some cheaper PSUs give up on peak time and cause serious performance issues and may cause damage to your hardware. It's best to provide us more information about your power supply. But for these specs, I wouldn't run it with anything lower than 500w.
