DVC 100 - problem with video synching with audio

DVC 100 - problem with video synching with audio

I have both Pinnacle 11 and 12.  When attempting to capture video using the DVC100 capture device, the resulting video does not sync with the audio.  The video and audio appear fine when playing in the preview window, but as soon as I click to start the capture, the video appears to intermittently freeze.  The resulting captured video is badly synced with the video portion not at all matching the audio portion. The audio sounds correct. There are no dropped frames.

    My driver info:

    DVC100 Audio Device: Pinnacle Systems, 12/12/2006, 1.2.5.0
    DVC100 Video Device: Pinnacle Systems, 4/6/2004, 1.1.406.0

I have tried this on three computers, both using Pinnacle 11 and 12, one a Vista machine, with the same results.  Any suggestions?

Re: DVC 100 - problem with video synching with audio

Your computer may be a bit underpowered for Studio 11 and 12, but I'll leave that for others to advise.

Sometimes these problems are caused by the processor running out power. Here are a couple of notes.

First of all, go to the Pinnacle settings and turn off the preview monitor during capture. This takes a lot of processor power.

Be sure that all background programs have been stopped. Sometimes it's necessary to boot in the safe mode with all background programs halted.

Unplug any usb devices that you absolutely don't need. Plug your capture device into one of the usb sockets on the rear of the machine. Be sure to not plug into a usb hub.

Capture to one of your internal drives, at least for a test.

Re: DVC 100 - problem with video synching with audio

Thank you for the response.  I actually upgraded my processor and display adaptor (see below).  Still had the problem.  Followed your suggestion and turned off preview.  The audio and video appear a bit more synched.  Not perfect, but not way off the way it was.

    Again, thanks for the suggstions.

I'm afraid your Athlon XP may still be lacking for processing captures. Have you tried lower quality settings?

Re: DVC 100 - problem with video synching with audio

I worked with tech support on this.  I changed the capture format to mpeg-1/2 at the lowest quality, and lo and behold, it works.

     Thanks for all the suggestions.
