Pinnacle exits part way through making dvd

I am treying to make a movie to dvd.  The movie file is about 1hr 22 mins and shows that it has 120,000 or so frames.  When I click to create the disc all seems to be going well i.e. it rendered the menu then started working through the frames.  I kept checking and noticed it was up to about 20,000 frames the last time checked. Having left the pc for a short while when I went back the make movie had not only stopped but I had been thrown out of Pinnacle.

I have turned off my auto sleep option so that it only applies after 3 hours.

I am running Studio 11 Ultiamte and have a 2.08Athlon GHZ with 256MB DDR RAM and 2.0 ghZ RAM.

This is the second time this has happened and I am getting frustrated.

    Any thoughts?

If it always stop on the 20000 mark, then you might have something in that part that causes the problem zoom in your timeline and see if you can find any gaps and fill it with an blank title.

.......Or Drop a Standard Title into the gap (If there is one). Quicker & easier.Wink

Re: Pinnacle exits part way through making dvd

I will run it again and see if I can spot if it stops at the same point - the problem being that I have left it runing and when I have got back to the machine it has exited though I do not know at what point exactly.

I can give that - i.e. entering a blank title though it may look a bit odd - a go as I would like anything to work.  I am interested as to why you think that might do the trick?

As another ploy I am thinking of downloading some software I have use din the past called EnditAll and runing that to close down all other processes running in case ther eis too much strain on the pc forcing it to close Pinnacle

Expand the TimeLine as far as it will go /  Look for any gaps / If yes - Drop a Standard Title into Gap, to fit Gap. Then Delete the Title. (Apologies - We both forgot that bitEmbarrassed), Gap should close.

I apologize for not mentioning about closing the gap. That did not make any sense at all. Embarrassed

Thanks for getting back to me - I should probably have realsied that.

At the the risk of asking what might be another obvious question when I look for gaps am I looking for an obvious break between scenes on the timeline?

Yes. Render will stop at a gap, because there's nothimg to Render.

    ........And

Compaq AMD Athlon 2800+; 2GB RAM; 80GB Studio 11 Plus Ultimate
    Operating System

Windows VistaI don't have Vista, however I think you need 1.5 GB RAM for that & another Recommended 1GB for Studio. So looks like you possibly have insufficient RAM. But other Vista Usres need to add their opinion re: that.

AMD Athlon 2800 should be sufficient for SD Editing.

Deleting Auxilliary Files, via File / delete auxilliary Files might also help in the meantime. File / delete doesn't automatically Delete them all. If you have a large number to begin wit & still have a large number after deleting. Delete them manually. How to, in my Post HERE

Apologies for my weird-looking PostEmbarrassed But the Forum can do weird things, at timesIndifferent

I agree with cleaning up Auxilliary files. With the Ram requirement, Windows Vista just meets 1.5GB the border line to be able to make it functional. An inexpensive 512mb or 1GB ram upgrade should be planned for you in the near future, not only of Studio's benefit but your System's overall performance.

Re: Pinnacle exits part way through making dvd

I deleted the aux files. I also extended the timeline and looked for breaks / gaps but I could not see any.  I did delete a couple of very small frames and then tried the make movies - again making a dvd using the automatic quality option.

I kept an eye on proceedings and all was going well until about 21,000 frame sand 14 minutes in when my pc turned itself off completely.

This leave sme wondering what caused this?  Is it something to do with my pc and/or XP? Given that the previous day I managed to succesfully make a dvd that was 47 minutes long I do not think it is a memory issue

Alternaitvely is there something in that clip [although I do not know exactly I think it failed at around about this point before].  I had a loook at the 'offending' clip and could not se eany obvious issues.  I guess the netx steps are to try again and see if it stops at the same point and/or delete that clip and see if the process can complete.

    I will persevere......

That is a possibility, does it stop in the middle of a long clip? Please try to render again just to see where it exactly stops.

Re: Pinnacle exits part way through making dvd

    Marc,

I am pleased to say that when I deleted the whole of the 'offending' clip the movie rendered completely through all 122,000 frames. Admitedly when it came to writing the movie to disk my pc had  a funny turn and switched off.  However when I rebooted and opened pinnacle again I could continue on the same project and it completed the movie making process.  I had to put in a new blank dvd so I assume the problem was with the disk.  The movie then played fine in a dvd player.

Over the course of time I may try to revisit the same movie and examine in even more detail the 'offending' clip howeve ron this occassion as I was trying to make the movie fr somebody else I just wanted to complete the project.

All the best and thanks to both of you for the help - very much appreciated as always.

    Cheers;
