Hi all, I thought I would start this new thread.  I see alot of folks us DVDitPro HD to author/burn their Blu Ray disks.  I upgraded to Encore CS4 to author and burn the Blu Ray disk.    Are there any tutorials anywhere that describe the process of going from Liquid to CS4 to author and burn Blu Ray?  Thank you very much.  ~  Gail

I just made a fast test Gail, Hd avi Mjpeg files crashes Encore CS 3 , might be my settings but files linked from media composer works well.

Hopefully Encore CS 4 works better with HD mjpeg Avi files , you might do a little test for yourself.

Thanks Thomas, I'm in the middle of doing a test myself.  I have Encore CS3 and knew I had to upgrade to CS4 to work with HD.  So we'll see.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

Ok but CS 3 are able to do both ordinary mpg 2 bluray as well as mpeg 4 ( H 264 ) bluray.  I have just made a test

I've found that Encore CS4 seems to have problems with several media formats. I was trying to use a QT ref from MC 3 (using the DNxHD codec) and Encore was most unhappy (same with Premiere CS4 - thought this might be a way to move files around between these different systems).

I haven't tried the MJPEG codec to Encore CS4 - would be interested to know if it works. Adobe suite has such potential but it seems their implementation is lacking. BTW - there's an update available for CS4 for both Encore and Premiere (4.0.1) - Have you tried that, Gail?

Very good that you are joining this thread Steve, I have CS 3 , seems to behave somehow different.

Getting apps from different companies to work together could sometimes be a little tricky.

Just FYI  others also have some probs with the DNxHD codecs used by Avid.

Have you tried going through Soundbooth Steve , that one seems to be able to handle most of the codecs

I just dragged and dropped a QT Ref file into SoundBooth CS4 (the QT was a reference to an DNxHD encoded 1920x1080 24p file) and CS4 froze up just as with Premiere and Encore. As noted, AfterEffects CS4 works just fine with this file. Go figure

Aren´t difficult apps beatiful to be able to have them to work together ....

So the main Q now is if it is possible to get an mjpeg avi file out from Liquid to work either with AE CS4 or Encore CS 4 , the LE codecs might also work but will take one night for encoding of the file.

With rergards to Encore CS3, I rendered a MJPEG-AVI 1440x1080 from Liquid and imported it into Encore CS3 and it did not crash.

Yes, I had uncorrect settings, just test created a H 264 bluray disc from Encore CS3

Hi Steve, yes, I bought the upgrade for CS4.  You have to purchase the upgrade for Premiere Pro CS4 to get Encore CS4.

Hi everyone,

 I did do a succssful test exporting as an mpegavi file from LE into Encore.  And I was successful at burning that file to a Blu Ray disk.  However, there seems to be quite a bit of noise in the file. I don't understand all of the encoding and transcoding going on, but when I play back the file on the blu ray to my LCD monitor, it doesn't really look all that great.  Can anyone tell me what settings I may not have set correctly or if I should be using an mpeg2 or mpeg4 file?

I would start with going from a mpeg 2 file and watch it on a big screen plasma or LCD played on a PS 3 if possible , computers are not for playing bluray or dvd discs

I have a BluRay player on the way to play it on my big plasma TV.  It's just that I played an HD DVD movie (Goodfellows) on my computer and the quality was WOW!  I viewed it with PowerDVD Ultra (came bundled with the BRD burner).  Guess I was expecting the same quality on the BRD that I burned. 

Please pardon my ignorance, but why would I export to Encore with an mpeg 2 vice an mpeg 4 file?  I'm sure I'm missing something.  ~thanks, Gail

I thought you meant mpeg 2 or mpeg 4 ( H 264 ) out from your disc , I have tried both and I think that so far, mpeg 2 is better.

I suppose your source media is standard interlaced hdv 2

I would recommend doing a test going from an uncompressed timeline, do a little correction with a filter applied on the entire clip or the header to have the entire clip to render

The settings for your avi file out from Liquid should be interlaced  -  4:2:2 - highest quality both on the tab in Liquid and in the tab in the advanced settngs

Size 1920 x 1080

Your settings for the bluray export from Encore should be interlaced, do a test if you are unsure if lower or upper field should be choosed, you can easily see when there are movements if you have sort of " shadows "

The discs I am doing is better than the one that I have used to compare, my opinion of course

I would test it on a short clip so you don't have to wait all night to see if it worked or not.  I'd also use a re-writable disk.  When I first started testing HD authoring I wasted 4 blu ray disks before I got a re-writable disk (ouch)!

I know this thread was started a while back, but since I've justed jumped on the blu-ray bandwagon thought I'd post my experience and software used to go from Liquid to Blu Ray.  Not saying this is the best approach, just that it worked for me:

1. Edit in Liquid (video captured from Sony HDR FX1 and edited on HD timeline)
2. Liquid Fuse to get video
3. Liquid Export Windows Media 5.1 Surround Sound - Audio Only
4. Sony SoundForge import wma export as ac3
5. CS4 Encore (Blu Ray Project set to use MPEG2 codec) Import Fused ,m2v file and .ac3 file and burnt re-writable blu ray to LG GGW H20L drive from within Encore.

Worked a charm and played back on PS3 brillaintly.  Have to say this was a much better experience than my first DVD attemnpts.
