Please help a new user eliminate an error triggered during capture.

I just installed Studio 9.1 on my XP machine. When I begin capturing video from my digital video camera via USB, I get a message that reads “Studio program file has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If I acknowledge the error box, Studio 9 closes. If I ignore the box, Studio continues to capture the video only to have problems ending the task once the source transmission has ended. Closing Studio and reopening will reveal a saved file of an appropriate size, “video 1” for example, but I get a box notifying me that there is an “error opening video file” when I click on it in editing mode. Please help me solve this problem. I installed Studio, that I purchased w/ my computer years back, because I need to edit video footage to satisfy a work obligation.

I attempted to download the 9.4 update but the site considers my serial # to be invalid.

Pinnacle does not offer tech support for V9.X

    Welcome to the ForumSmile

    I don't have S9, however

IMO, if you have a DV Tape Cam, you should be Capturing, via Firewire & not USB.

Could you post the make/model of the camera you are using as your source

    OT...

There are two groups of people, those who have lost data and those who are about to.
As I've just lost a hard drive, that made me laugh out loud......

(it happened to be my render drive)

I completely agree with colour on capturing with FIREWIRE and not USB. Should you only have the option to capture using USB try using the camcorder's software to capture the video and import the file in Studio.

Hate to raid this thread towards data corruption but I think there's a number of maximum read and write times on each of the hard drive? A great article on how to prolong it's life is here. Of course some of the pointers there are known by most of us here.
