    Back Up Project Problem

    Hi Everyone,

I have been backing up my projects in Liquid 7.2 for years with no probs but tonight for some reason I have having some issues.

Tonight I went to back up my most recent project.  I always back up everything except render files as these can be recreated.  However, tonight it went through the back up process and then in the render box down the bottom threw a ! Cannot find file ..........I have worked out for some reason it is not able to find my captured media eg: Reels.  Now my reels (tapes) are all on my media drive  and there are no ! marks on my clips in my rack or all over my footage on my timeline -  it just can't find where my reels are located to back them up to my external hard drive.  Any idea on  how I can fix this?

This is what I have already tried:

Diagnose Project - didn't fix it

Verify all media  - with copy media - didn't fix it

Clean up Project - did nothing to fix the issue

Saved a copy of the project and tried to back up from this - no luck.

The file size is sooo small compared to my other project so I know it cannot find the captured media.

If anyone can help me out I would be forever grateful.  Can't believe I have been using liquid for 5 years and it still manages to confuse me at times.

To my knowlege I have not changed anything.

    Re: Back Up Project Problem

The project does not contain the media. They should still be somewhere on your drive. Do you know where on your harddrive your media is ? Did you capture or import it ? Did the location maybe recentley changed, or is it on an external drive which changed drive letter ?
Check in control panel -> Media management. The location of the files should be setup as Media AV folder. Otherwise the software will not find the media.

    Re: Back Up Project Problem

Thanks for your help.  I know that the project does not contain the media but when doing a back up of my project I ALWAYS back up my media files/import files, captured media and project files  - the only think I don't back up is the render files.

My captured media is on my D drive inside a folder called Reels . This is how I get to my Reels folder where my captured media is stored:

    D Drive:\Documents and Settings\Catherine\My Documents\Avid Liquid\Data\Media/Reels

Each tape captured is named in a yellow folder e.g.

    MARY-ANNE & ALEX TAPE65.PD73C0300

    MARY-ANNE & ALEX TAPE65.PD73C0300 ETC ETC  - I have 6 tapes

I captured the media using the logging tool.

To my knowledge the location has NOT recently changed. The drive is an INTERNAL hard drive. The drive I am backing up to is an external drive.   I have been able to go into other projects and do complete backups and they are working fine and the captured media for the other projects are stored on my D drive in the same location under different names/tapes.

In control panel -> Media Management it says:

    Alias         Path

           x  x    D:\Documents and Settings\Catherine\My Documents\Avid Liquid\Data\Media

I have some other paths underneath from some old restored projects but the current one is on top 1st.

The funny thing is I just started a new project and captured some footage and backed it up and it worked fine just not this current project.????Angry

I don't know what could be wrong.. i thought maybe as I had a - in the name MARY-ANNE it didn't like it but I did a test with another - dash name and it works fine.

Any other ideas?  I really don't want to have to start this project all over again ..thanks for your help..

    Re: Back Up Project Problem

Anyone know what has happened here?

I managed to copy the media into the back up I had made and tried to restore the project on my new back up editing machine and it all worked BUT I really would like to know why it is doing this?

     Any ideas?  Anyone???

    Re: Back Up Project Problem

    Hi Cathy

I had a "cannot find file" problem recently when attempting to create the dvd files.  In the end I had to resort to fusing the timeline.  The missing file was from footage that was no longer part of the project, and I had deleted the media in Liquid and from my hard drive.  I tried reimporting and recapturing but that didn't fix the problem, hence the fuse.

    Re: Back Up Project Problem

Hi, I have never backed up a project to an external network drive so I can't be of much help.  I back up to an external 1TB lacie and have never had any probs until the other day as described above in my initial post.  To give you an idea on time to back up.  I'm running a quad core 3gig intel pentium computer and it would normally take around 40mins (high def footage & timeline with about 2 hours on timeline) to back up everything except the render files.   Did you tick for it to do render files aswell?... as that may be half of your prob.  You do not need to get liquid to do this as it will create the render files from the footage/timeline if you have to restore.  It should not take that long.   Have a look at your back up settings and maybe try backing up to an external drive rather than a network.

     Cheers Cathy

    Re: Back Up Project Problem

    Hey John,

Thanks for reply.   Unfortunately I can't fuse my timeline yet as I am still in the process of editing.  I did manage to back up and restore the project on my 2nd editing computer (see above post) but I am still working on the computer where it wont' back up properly.  I just don't know why.. very strange .
