    Dazzle DVC100 + Studio 12.1 BSOD - EmStream.sys

Hello everyone. I just bought a new Dazzle DVC100 and Pinnacle Studio 12.1 To use for capturing with my Vista basic 32-bit laptop. It has 2GB of ram, two 1GB chips. I have been reading around other posts in here but I have not found a solution to my problem. The card and studio 12 were working for me the first couple of times, and I decided to change some settings around in the video preferences to see if the quality would be any different. Now, when I changed these settings Studio 12 warned me that making these changes could cause my computer to run slow, but I changed the settings anyway.

So, it was working a couple times after I made those changes but then all of a sudden, every single time after that, I would get the BSOD. I still get the BSOD with my capture card no matter what program I am in and I have even tried just having the capture card plugged in with nothing plugged into it, but it still causes the BSOD. I have uninstalled Studio 12 and reinstalled to make sure the settings went back to default settings and I have all of the latest drivers.

I just plain think that the dazzle is not compatible with Vista. I don't think Pinnacle should be saying the capture card is compatible with Vista if it isn't. I have no idea what to do or try next, as I have done everything here in the forums that I have read and it still has not solved my problem. I cannot bring the Dazzle back for my money either, so I hope this isn't a waste of 60 dollars. Any help or forwarding to another helpful board would be appreciated. Thanks Yes

Well hey everyone! The problem is now fixed... after having the BSOD for weeks and weeks, the problem was fixed by going in and deleting all of my older drivers completely and repairing the newest drivers from the new driver installation .exe. I have no idea why this worked, because installing new drivers is supposed to delete the older ones in the first place. But thanks anyway. This forum really helps me out in other aspects of the program also. I am glad that my capture card wasn't a waste of money.

Re: My Solution: Dazzle DVC / Studio BSOD - EmStream.sys stop error

    Hi,

Long story short ( I will posting a long thread about my recent struggles with this stuff) I ended up with the infamous EMSTREAM.SYS Blue Screen Crashing.  I followed ALL the steps laid out in this thread (and a few others in these forums) all to no avail.

What I hit on while doing further research on this error, was a thread about how to mod a driver (another product also using the emStream.sys driver items) that the user was trying to get working under Vista (I use XP, but the process is basically the same).

In that thread, they had a problem with the file emStream.sys not installing properly (or at all)....  Anyhow, I followed their steps adjusted for XP, and tweaked the DVC90 Video driver to NOT use the file emStream.sys as it seemed to them to not be needed at this point in time.

If you edit the (in my case) DVC90Video.inf driver file ( I used Notepad) and comment out the line that copys the emStream.sys file into the windows system folder.  You do this by putting a  semi-colon ( ; ) at the beginning of the line in the INF file that tells it to copy emstream.sys

After you save the INF file, you need to go through Device Manager and Update the DVC90 video driver using this now modded INF file.

It SHOULD rebuild the DVC video driver without using the emStream.sys file.  I went ahead and deleted ALL copies of emStream.sys off my system just to be safe.

All things being equal, your emStream.sys crashes should be solved.... Hopefully.

Look for my long thread in the Capture section of the Studio Forums...
